Overview
Job Duties
Provides excellent customer service and greets patients entering the department/practice. A multi-skilled position dedicated to assisting in all aspects of medical practice including administrative and clinical procedures under the direct supervision and responsibility of a licensed podiatric physician, Office Manager and/or Team Lead. Under the direction of the licensed podiatric physician, performs podiatric radiographic services i.e., positions patient prior to performing radiographic exposures, operates and maintains all radiographic equipment for the Foot & Ankle clinic.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions
• Receives and directs messages in a timely manner, (electronic, in person and telephone calls) to the appropriate personnel. Makes contacts to other departments, physicians, patients and other outside organizations as necessary for the departmental/practice operations
• Maintains patient scheduling functions, and sets patient appointments through established guidelines.
• Interviews and completes the registration process for patients utilizing the specific service.
• Maintains patient records. Keys patient dispositions, diagnostic codes, patient orders, charges and payments as defined in the electronic medical record.
• Performs venipuncture, collects routine laboratory specimens and performs POCT as directed by provider.
• Administers non-controlled medication as directed by and under the direct supervision of licensed physician
• Performs various podiatric radiographic exams under the direct supervision of a licensed physician. Calculates proper exposure factors, exposes film and reviews, and examines radiographs for technical quality and clarity. Instructs and prepares patients for radiographic examinations and determines most suitable anatomic position, shielding the patient appropriately.
• Operates radiographic equipment in a safe an efficient manner under the licensed podiatric physician's direction and supervision. Reviews images and forwards timely to PACS.
Qualifications
Experience Requirements
1 year Medical assistant preferred
2 years Clerical/customer service experience -ideally in a health care related industry preferred
1 year One year experience with third party payors and computer experience for in
putting data and reviewing patient demographic material preferred
Education Requirements
High School Diploma or GED required
Certification/Licensure
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) required at time of hire
Basic Life Support (BLS) required at time of hire
Medical Terminology Certificate preferred at time of hire
Radiology Technician preferred

A requirement of having completed an MA program that is accredited by the National
Commission for Certifying Agencies, a national or state medical association, or an agency
approved by the board.
