The GIS Specialist employs Geographic Information Systems, database management, and other software to perform spatial database development and analysis, cartographic tasks, and application support tasks to help complete contract and grant-funded work.

Telework may be available for this position up to two days per week following the completion of 90 days of service in good standing.

Responsibilities and Duties

Employ GIS software to perform GIS database development, and cartographic design, and production tasks. Design, develop, document, and maintain geospatial data. Perform complex GIS analysis, developing scripts to automate tasks. Produce customized cartographic products, web maps, and web apps. Provide client and application support, collaboration with Application Development and Information Technology teams. Perform quality control and assurance reviews; preparing and delivering professional presentations; and performing other GIS-related activities. Qualifications and Skills

Bachelor's degree and 3 years of relevant experience. A master's degree from an accredited college or university in any of the above disciplines may be substituted for two years of the required experience. Preference will be given to candidates with degrees in geography, natural or earth sciences, environmental sciences/studies, engineering, land surveying, computer science, planning, or a related field. Knowledge of automated mapping and spatial information processing methods, techniques, and capabilities. Knowledge of industry-standard GIS software (particularly the ArcGIS suite of software). Knowledge of cartographic design principles, digital drafting principles, and GIS database design. Knowledge of GIS hardware and software components, data communication, and network methods and techniques. Knowledge of Python scripting and SQL. Knowledge of project requirements. Ability to work effectively in a team environment. Ability to give instructions and technical guidance, and to direct the activities of other staff. Ability to design and support elements of GIS application programs. Ability to use customizable no- or low-code frameworks (e.g., ArcGIS Experience Builder) to develop interactive mapping applications. Ability to reason logically and to communicate effectively with system users to translate application concepts into system applications. Ability to translate technical concepts and terminology in terms understandable to system users. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with user departments, supervisors, administrative officials, project managers and co-workers.

Salary and Benefits

Targeted salary range of $70,000-$75,000. This is a twelve-month contract. Contractual employees scheduled to work 30 or more hours per week may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage.
