UJA
The Moment:
Given its sweeping mission, UJA-Federation, the world's largest local philanthropy, often finds itself at the nexus of world events. With antisemitism surging, Israel at war, and an unprecedented outpouring of Jewish pride among New Yorkers, this is a defining moment for the organization.
It's also an incredible opportunity to expand our reach and grow our base of support. To facilitate this, we've created a new position within the organization designed to elevate the impact of our storytelling across all digital spaces, at a moment when our work feels ever more pressing and consequential.
About the Role:
In this new, director-level role of Digital Content Strategist, you will develop, manage, and execute an expanded holistic digital content strategy for the organization that will help bring our work to life across all digital platforms. You’ll be responsible for optimizing the UJA story and message, coordinating and implementing content creation, channel placement, format, and frequency.
This role has dual report to both the VP, Brand & Marketing and the CTO, Digital Solutions. You'll work extensively with both marketing and the digital solutions teams to promote UJA's work and mission across a dynamic, primarily Jewish audience.
You’ll partner with digital channel managers to develop and implement an approach to significantly expand our reach, frequency, effectiveness, and engagement. And you’ll collaborate with content creators to coordinate and map digital content – including web, social media, YouTube, podcasts, streaming services, email, and emerging platforms like VR/AR.
The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in digital content, a strong understanding of modern content trends and technologies (including AI), a track record of building effective multi-channel content strategies, and excellent project management and coordination skills commensurate with managing a multi-platform content strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
Own and collaboratively develop the organization’s digital content strategy , including defining content purpose, target audience, format, channel, and frequency. Reimagine how we upcycle/recycle content items across relevant digital platforms
(e.g., mine content across UJA’s vast trove of video, archives, and even print in collaboration with full content team to exponentially grow brand presence across various platforms) in close coordination with the rest of content team. Determine appropriate content types
per channel (e.g., web, social media, YouTube, live-stream, podcasts, Prime Video, email, VR/AR, 360 video, etc.) based on organizational goals and audience needs. Establish an organization-wide content calendar and frequency guidelines
per channel, ensuring balanced and strategic output across platforms. Work with content teams to innovate and expand content formats , including long-form video, podcasts, interactive media, live-streamed content, AI-generated content, and immersive experiences like VR/AR. Stay on top of emerging content trends, tools, and platforms , recommending innovative approaches that enhance audience engagement and reach. Develop KPIs and content performance metrics
in collaboration with analytics teams, and continuously refine the strategy based on data and insights. Partner with internal and external content creators
across all levels to help ensure product aligns with strategy. Work with technology teams to leverage AI and other tools
for content creation, management, and optimization. Collaborate closely with Digital Solutions, Fundraising, IT , and other teams to align content strategy with business objectives, campaigns, and brand initiatives. Ensure coordination of message and voice
across all digital touchpoints while adapting to the unique context of each channel. Requirements & Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Digital Content Strategy, Communications, Media Studies, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field. 10-12+ years of experience in content strategy, digital media, or a comparable role leading multi-channel content programs. Superb collaboration and communication skills, with a proven ability to work across all levels and all departments. Forest + Trees thinker: Sharp conceptual thinker who’s also a master of details with strong project management abilities, able to balance big picture/strategy with operational execution. Keen attention to detail in creating and managing a unified digital content publishing schedule and cadence, supporting strategic and well-paced messaging across all channels. Experience in developing content strategies across a range of digital platforms, including but not limited to web, social, video, audio, and emerging media. Deep understanding of modern content formats, like video (short and long form), podcasts, interactive content, AI-generated media, VR/AR, and 360-degree video. Experience with content planning, messaging frameworks, tone of voice guidelines, and persona-based content development. Familiarity with digital marketing principles, SEO, AI-powered tools, and content analytics platforms. Unflappable temperament and agile thinker who can move at a fast clip and be ready to roll with Plan B (or even Plan C!) when circumstances call for it. Creative, innovative, and audience-centric mindset with a passion for storytelling.
