Job Summary:
The Program Coordinator is responsible for providing high-quality instruction in graphic design while helping students develop their technical and creative skills. This role involves coordinating student engagement and offering mentorship, guidance, and real-world experiences through guest speakers, field trips, and internships. The Program Coordinator will create lesson plans that align with current industry trends, maintain a structured learning environment, and collaborate with external partners to enhance student opportunities.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Instruction & Curriculum Development: • Design Lesson Plans: Create and deliver lesson plans that incorporate current graphic design tools and techniques, covering topics such as digital illustration, typography, logo creation, and branding. • Teach Graphic Design Software: Provide hands-on instruction in industry-standard design software, such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. • Project-Based Learning: Guide students through real-world graphic design projects, helping them build a portfolio of work to present to future employers or for internships. • Guest Speakers & Mentors: Coordinate with industry professionals to offer guest speaker sessions and mentorship opportunities, giving students insights into different career paths within the field. • Field Trips: Plan and organize field trips to local design studios, printing companies, and industry events, offering students exposure to real-world design environments.
Student Development & Coordination: • Internship Program: Work with local businesses and design firms to create internship opportunities for students, preparing them for real-world experience in graphic design. • Mentorship: Act as a mentor to students, offering feedback and advice on their personal and professional development within the graphic design field. • Progress Tracking: Track and assess students' progress throughout the program, adjusting instruction as necessary to ensure student success. • Career Readiness: Assist students in creating professional resumes, portfolios, and presentations for use in job applications and college submissions.
Program Coordination: • Member Engagement: Build relationships with students and parents, ensuring active engagement and communication regarding student progress and participation in events. • Field Trip & Event Logistics: Coordinate the logistics for field trips, guest speakers, and workshops, ensuring all aspects of the events run smoothly. • Attendance & Records: Maintain accurate records of student attendance, participation, and progress for reporting purposes. • Classroom Management: Ensure a positive and safe learning environment, managing student behavior and ensuring all program policies are followed.
Skills and Qualifications: • Education: A bachelor's degree in graphic design or a related field is preferred. • Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in graphic design; experience in education or mentorship is a plus. • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and other graphic design software. • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage students, parents, and external partners. • Organization: Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple responsibilities such as lesson planning, coordination of external events, and tracking student progress. • Creativity: Ability to inspire students through creative thinking, innovation, and real-world applications of design principles. • Team Collaboration: Work closely with the Program Director and other staff to align program objectives with the overall goals of the organization.
