What You'll Do...
As a Health Data Systems Developer supporting government scientific initiatives, you'll develop secure, scalable systems that enable advanced data analysis and machine learning integration. You'll build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, deploy containerized applications, manage Linux environments, and support reproducible research through clear documentation and version control. Your work will directly support mission-critical research efforts and require collaboration across technical and scientific teams, with a strong focus on adaptability and emerging technologies.
Key Responsibilities & Expected Outcomes
Operationalize AI/ML Models for Scientific Use -
Develop pipelines for training, fine-tuning, and deploying AI and machine learning models, including large language models, for use in secure and mission-aligned environments Design and Manage DevOps Infrastructure -
Build and maintain CI/CD workflows using GitHub Actions and/or GitLab Pipelines, enabling automated testing, secure deployments, and reproducible environments. Create Secure and Efficient Software Containers -
Design and deploy containerized applications using Docker with a focus on minimal, hardened builds suitable for government computing environments Administer and Optimize Linux Systems -
Support and enhance Linux-based systems critical to research infrastructure, ensuring high availability, security, and performance. Ensure Reproducibility and Collaboration through Documentation and Versioning -
Maintain comprehensive, markdown-based documentation and use Git workflows to ensure traceability and reproducibility of scientific software development. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities for Success

Writes clean, efficient code in Python or comparable high-level languages and develops relational databases using SQL. Administers and optimizes Linux-based systems to ensure security, performance, and availability. Designs, builds, and deploys containerized applications using Docker for secure and reproducible research environments. Develops and maintains CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions or GitLab Pipelines to support automated, traceable deployments. Maintains reproducibility and collaboration through Git workflows and Markdown-based documentation. Uses workflow managers such as Nextflow or Snakemake to support scientific data pipelines. Applies compiled languages (e.g., C, C++, Rust, Scala) and build systems (e.g., Maven, Make, CMake) in maintaining complex software projects. Leverages cloud platforms and APIs, particularly within AWS and Azure environments. Works with distributed data platforms such as Cloudera, Apache Spark, NiFi, Iceberg, or Impala to enable large-scale data processing and analytics. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, Information Systems, or scientific discipline with significant computing emphasis 3+ years of experience in software engineering, DevOps, data science, or a related technical role supporting research or government operations. Must be able to obtain government clearance Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related scientific field. Prior experience supporting scientific computing or software development efforts within federal research or public health environments. Compensation & Work Environment
Salary Range:
$90,000.00-110,000.00, dependent on experience. Environment:
Work will be performed at the CDC Roybal Campus in Atlanta, Georgia. While hybrid work may be considered for well-qualified candidates, regular on-site presence is expected based on project requirements and client expectations.
