Enterprise API Engineer
Hourly: $65/hr-$70/hr Contract-to-hire Onsite, Columbus, OH We are seeking high-capacity, innovative engineers to join our team in building best-in-class enterprise APIs and production infrastructure. This role involves working closely with our Development Manager to deliver scalable, high-performance, and reliable solutions using modern technologies and cloud-native practices. Key Responsibilities Design and develop modern REST APIs using Java Spring Boot. Contribute to system architecture, including server layout, availability, disaster recovery, and production deployments. Assist in software and data design, including: Database schema and storage optimization. Data mapping and transformation. API design (call signatures, schema, business logic, resilience, logging). Deliver high-quality, scalable, and recoverable software solutions. Work with Kafka for event streaming, including setup, enrichment, and transformation. Collaborate in an Agile environment, participating in 2-week sprints. Integrate solutions into CI/CD pipelines with automated testing and deployment. Maintain and evolve existing integration assets and systems. Minimum Qualifications Education - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, or a related field, or equivalent work experience. Required Experience & Skills 7+ years of software development experience, including API development. 1+ years of experience with DevOps practices. Strong Java development skills with Spring Framework, Maven, and Gradle. Experience with both relational and non-relational databases. Proficiency in Agile methodologies and team collaboration. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to prioritize and manage tasks in a dynamic environment. Preferred Qualifications Experience with REST, JSON, and SOAP web services. Familiarity with CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub, JUnit). Experience with deployment automation tools (e.g., Chef, Puppet). Hands-on experience with Kafka and cloud platforms.
