Job Summary
The Database Security Engineer Lead is responsible for implementing and maintaining security systems to protect relational databases, AWS cloud-native databases, NoSQL, and big data platforms. The role involves working with a team of security professionals to provide guidance, support, and expert-level incident response and investigation for database security issues.
This position is key to safeguarding the banks information assets through effective controls and security measures.
Major Responsibilities
Design, develop, test, document, monitor, and implement database security solutions in accordance with policies, standards, and procedures.
Act as a trusted partner to business, operations, development, risk, and compliance teams, providing SME guidance on database security.
Manage database activity monitoring (DAM) platforms for security and audit compliance, including policy creation, event analysis, and infrastructure maintenance.
Develop and maintain security standards, guidelines, and procedures for database hardening and user roles.
Refine existing controls and policies to prevent unauthorized data access, modification, or destruction.
Evaluate updates to security controls, coordinate testing and implementation with stakeholders.
Identify vulnerabilities in security products and mitigate control deficiencies.
Enhance systems used to prevent and detect security breaches.
Assess database security patches, evaluate risks, and coordinate vulnerability mitigation.
Respond to security incidents, assist in Tier-1 and Tier-2 investigations.
Perform root cause analysis of security violations and take appropriate actions.
Serve as technical lead on security projects.
Collaborate with database custodians to understand security needs and implement best practices.
Work with auditors to demonstrate compliance with security controls.
Implement and improve monitoring systems for security violations.
Stay updated on industry trends and security best practices.
Manage complex projects, including planning and execution.
Evaluate business processes and software for security and integrity impacts.
Qualifications
Degree or equivalent experience in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, IT, or related fields.
Bachelors degree required; Masters preferred.
5-7+ years in cybersecurity, incident response, or related fields.
Experience in banking or finance industries preferred.
Expertise in database security, monitoring, and protection tools.
Familiarity with platforms like Imperva Data Security, DRA, DSF/Sonar.
Imperva Data Security Specialist (IDSS) certification is highly desirable.
Deep knowledge of databases and technologies such as Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL.
Working knowledge of AWS RDS and other cloud technologies.
Understanding of data protection, cybersecurity tools, and methods.
Experience with database firewalls, data classification, vulnerability detection, and mitigation.
Knowledge of security regulations (GLBA, SOX, PCI, etc.).
Certifications like CISA, CEH, CISSP, CISM are a plus.
