Contract Position Overview

A government agency supporting early childhood through career readiness initiatives is seeking a skilled

Integration Developer

to lead the design and implementation of API integrations with third-party Child Care Management Systems (CCMS), such as Brightwheel, ProCare, Alliance Core, Playground, and Lillio.

The primary objective is to build a functional prototype with selected vendors, assess data quality, and establish scalable integration patterns for future rollouts. This position plays a vital role in modernizing education data infrastructure and enabling real-time, actionable insights that influence policy and enrollment decisions. Key Responsibilities Develop and maintain robust APIs to enable data integration with external education platforms. Create secure, scalable endpoints incorporating authentication, messaging, and version control. Build translation layers to align external data formats with internal schemas. Implement and support data exchange standards (e.g., Ed-Fi) to enhance system interoperability. Conduct testing and validation to ensure integration accuracy and reliability. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including data engineering, analytics, database administration, and cloud teams. Monitor and optimize data flows to ensure ongoing data availability and integrity. Contribute to code reviews and provide guidance to internal development teams. Offer technical recommendations to support long-term architectural alignment and strategic goals. Support data strategy initiatives by advising on integration architecture and best practices. Required Skills & Qualifications Proven experience designing and implementing API integrations with third-party software platforms. Strong understanding of RESTful APIs, authentication protocols (OAuth, API keys), and versioning strategies. Hands-on experience with data mapping, transformation, and handling formats like JSON and XML. Familiarity with education data standards (e.g., Ed-Fi) is highly desirable. Proficiency in modern programming languages such as C#, Java, Python, or Node.js. Knowledge of API protocols including REST, SOAP, and GraphQL. Experience with DevOps tools and CI/CD practices. Background in secure API design and public API service boundary principles. Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work across technical and business teams. Experience conducting code reviews and contributing to shared codebases. Preferred Qualifications Prior work with public benefit systems or within sectors such as education, healthcare, or human services. Experience in government agency environments (federal, state, or local). Familiarity with enterprise architecture principles and architecture-compliant software development. Ability to provide input on integration strategy, data governance, and long-term technical planning.
