Position Overview Specialized professional level in the nursing occupation under general supervision of the Nurse Manager, requiring considerable knowledge of professional nursing practices as an Ohio Registered Nurse in order to supervise the Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and direct care staff and direct nursing operations on an entire shift at an MR/DD facility engaged in providing direct professional patient care. Performs the material and substantial duties of the classification more than 50% of the time.
Summary of Job Duties Supervises RNs, LPNs and direct care staff on an entire assigned shift and directs nursing operations on assigned shift in coordination with other disciplines, provides for staffing of allocated positions, plans required work and assigns duties, provides professional nursing care as needed (i.e., assists staff in situations requiring special treatments, assists physicians with medical and surgical procedures, interprets laboratory test results and evaluates resident's over-all condition, orders and maintains controls on narcotics, administers medications and treatments as required, arranges for transfer of residents to other facilities when necessary), coordinates residents' medical/nursing care with outside program sites, agencies and other internal disciplines, implements required infection control, bloodborne pathogens, and safety practices, responsible for overseeing all emergency evacuations, oversees and determines major unusual incidents, completes investigations and communicates with all appropriate internal and external parties.
If assigned to Still in Motion (SIM) day program, this position also performs the following duties:
Assist and monitor residents who attend day programming in conjunction with RN/LPN on duty. These duties will be done in coordination with the Stillwater Center Director and Nurse Manager.
Coordinates with department support staff to track certification expiration dates (e.g., CPR/First Aid, medication administration) as well as scheduling of staff for training. Audits for compliance and quality assurance issues.
Performs tasks of the functional area(s) supervised, oversees records maintenance, audits records for compliance, prepares required reports covering shift's operations, orders supplies and equipment, submits recommendations for the maintenance of effective policies and practices, provides necessary liaison with residents' families, attends Resident Review, Plans of Care, and IHP meetings, performs as Nurse Manager on an on-call status, applies first aid and administers C.P.R. as needed.
(Performs Related Duties as Required) Minimum Qualifications and Requirements Current State of Ohio Registered Nurse (RN) license and two (2) years of experience in an RN position with developmental disabilities and/or pediatrics is preferred. Experience in an acute care setting, or combination of an acute care and long-term care settings is strongly preferred; OR alternative, equivalent evidence of the Minimum Class Requirements,
excluding mandated licensure .

Must maintain a current, valid United States driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Training and Development:
Must obtain First Aid and CPR-BLS certification within the initial probationary period. Must maintain certifications and licensure. All Montgomery County employees become members of the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System and have access to deferred compensation programs.
