Summary:
The Outreach Coordinator/Financial Coach is responsible for leading, coordinating, and supporting the outreach and implementation of financial coaching services programs and affordable housing information to educate the community. That includes but is not limited to basic finance concepts, general money scam practices in Bay Area counties where Self-Help provides services, and affordable housing development for the residents of San Francisco.
Essential Functions
Coordinates and facilitates monthly programs, financial literacy, and outreach and education on affordable housing workshops to recruit clients for group or one-to-one coaching opportunities. Conducts one-on-one counseling with participants, including working with each participant to assess their financial situation, goals, and needs. Assists participants in developing a budget and setting financial goals; produces written action plans supporting them. Motivates participants to implement the established plan to improve their overall financial situation and provides ongoing one-on-one support to assist participants in meeting established goals and priorities; provides service and problem-solving assistance for participant inquiries and case management. Provides information and referral to participants on financial literacy issues, including, but not limited to, bankruptcy, collection action, court judgment, credit education, credit reports, housing issues, consumer protection laws, etc. Conducts outreach and provides information on affordable housing, including legislative and consumer updates. Explains credit report ratings and protection laws to participants and provides answers to participants' questions. Assists clients in improving or acquiring desired credit ratings for their financial needs. Represents the agency at various financial/housing outreach opportunities, services, and economic development meetings/events. Supports all administrative functions of the Financial Services Program, including monthly, quarterly, and annual reports with program statistics and written narratives. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or associate degree in accounting or financial or related field; must have prior grassroots community organizing and outreach experience at a nonprofit agency that serves underprivileged groups and demonstrated ability to deliver outcomes and move goals forward. A compassionate, values-driven leader with prior experience building new programs and thinking creatively and independently. Strong interpersonal skills that can engage marginalized groups and elected officials. Must be available to work on evenings and weekends, as needed. Good organizational and problem-solving skills. Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. Bilingual in Spanish, Cantonese and/or Mandarin, or other languages is highly preferred. Proficient in MS Office and the Internet. Must be able to travel via public transportation or personal vehicle for the performance of job duties. If driving, must have and maintain a valid CA driver’s license, satisfactory driving record, and auto insurance coverage as specified in Self-Help's policy.
