The University of Virginia Department of Anesthesiology is seeking a Division Chief for Pediatric Anesthesiology. The position requires candidates to have served in an academic faculty role as a pediatric anesthesiologist for at least 3 years and possess significant leadership experience.

The Division Chief will promote excellence in perioperative care for pediatric surgical patients across all clinical locations. Responsibilities include maintaining and improving the quality and efficiency of anesthesia services, developing a strategic vision for the division, and supporting faculty growth through mentoring and development opportunities. Reporting Structure: The division chief reports to the Chair, Executive Vice Chair, Vice Chair of Clinical Operations, and other vice chairs within the Department of Anesthesiology. The section chief for Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesia reports directly to the Division Chief. Key Responsibilities: Design protocols to optimize pediatric anesthesia in surgical and interventional procedures. Collaborate with nursing leadership, surgeons, and proceduralists to ensure workflow efficiency. Develop and sustain a pediatric sedation service in collaboration with relevant departments. Address quality concerns related to pediatric anesthesia. Attend over 65% of departmental leadership meetings monthly. Lead regular division meetings (minimum six per year) to discuss clinical, educational, academic, and community engagement opportunities. Coordinate with the residency director and Vice Chair for Education to meet educational goals and maintain a comprehensive didactic curriculum. Mentor division faculty and work with the Vice Chair for faculty development; report faculty progress during reappointments and promotions. Nominate faculty for awards in coordination with the Vice Chair for Faculty Development. Promote the division's academic mission and ensure representation at national meetings. Participate in faculty evaluations, providing feedback on contributions to clinical care, education, research, and community engagement. Ensure billing compliance and collaborate to maximize billing and collections. Assist in workforce planning and faculty recruitment. Partner in developing orientation programs for new faculty. Foster a diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environment aligned with ASPIRE values. Qualifications: Candidates must hold an MD or equivalent, complete an anesthesiology residency and pediatric anesthesiology fellowship, and be American Board of Anesthesiology certified or eligible.
