Work Shift Job Description The James B. Edwards College of Dental Medicine (JBECDM) is pleased to announce the recruitment of a full time Program Director for an Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency Program (AEGD) in Charleston, South Carolina. The Program Director is responsible for providing clinical leadership, mentoring of residents and staff, and ensuring excellence in patient care. This faculty can participate in Dental Faculty Practice (DFP), up to two-half days per week. The selected individual will have primary responsibilities for the administration of the AEGD program, to include but not limited to: (a) continued development and implementation of the curriculum; (b) evaluation of program content; (c) Establish structured mentorship programs and regular feedback mechanisms for residents; (d) oversight and evaluation of resident and faculty performance; (e) maintenance of residents’ education records; and (f) application, interview, recruitment, and selection of residents. The position must also ensure that the program complies with the CODA Standards of the AEGD Program. The Program Director will develop strategic goals for the program, perform regular assessment and performance appraisals, and provide feedback to each resident on a regular basis. Candidates with knowledge and experience in digital dentistry are preferred. The program Director should participate in the Advanced Education Committee of the College of Dental Medicine. Didactic Instruction Required Courses - The Program Director will provide oversight of the instruction, as well as facilitating essential components of the curriculum in coordination with the Master of Science in Dentistry Program Director. Seminars – The Program Director will develop and implement weekly seminars in alignment with the CODA-approved curriculum. Literature Review & Case Conferences – The Program Director is responsible for leading any weekly learnings related to literature reviews and case conferences. Clinical Instruction The Program Director provides direction and oversight of resident schedules and caseloads. The position serves as an attending faculty, as well as coordinates oversight by other attending faculty. Clinical Instruction includes support for the Urgent Care Clinic and emergency services of the College, to ensure residents gain practical experience in managing acute dental situations. The position is responsible for ensuring a sufficient variety of cases to ensure compliance with CODA standards and for preparing residents for practice. The position calls for an experienced clinician and mature mentor with recognized people skills who can provide an evidence-based approach to post-graduate education and clinical care in a comprehensive patient care environment. It includes collaboration with the General Practice Residency Program Director, Predoctoral program, Nexton Clinic Director and WAMP Clinic Director, and other specialty care providers, to foster a cohesive learning environment in both general and advanced dental practices. Minimum Qualifications Applicants must possess a DMD, DDS, or equivalent degree and be eligible for licensure in South Carolina and obtain the license prior to starting in the position. Completion of General Practice Residency (GPR) Program or Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) Program to qualify as Program Director. Qualified applicants should submit a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, and two professional reference letters with their application. Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
