Overall Purpose The Director, Business Development (BD) - Merchant, is a sales expert responsible for executing the Paze merchant sales strategy, developing strategic plans, and establishing relationships with C-suite and cross-functional stakeholders to sell Paze digital checkout and wallet services to US enterprise merchants. This 'hunter' role also involves leading and supporting a high-performing sales team, collaborating internally to refine sales strategies, and working with partners to drive sales success. The role requires close partnership with Customer Integration and Relationship Management teams to ensure high customer satisfaction during merchant onboarding.
Essential Functions
Sell Paze digital wallet and checkout solutions to targeted US merchants.
Build influential relationships with key decision-makers at merchant companies and payment providers.
Present Paze's value and vision to stakeholders, securing buy-in and navigating complex negotiations.
Implement and adapt go-to-market plans to foster early customer adoption.
Lead and mentor the Business Development team to achieve sales targets and ensure high performance.
Maintain regular pipeline updates with leadership and cross-functional teams.
Negotiate and influence outcomes aligned with Paze strategies, promoting continuous process improvements.
Manage multiple prospects and projects, building trust and defending complex issues.
Coordinate with channel partners and resellers to align account plans with sales strategies and KPIs.
Utilize Salesforce.com for detailed record-keeping and pipeline management.
Drive process improvements and mentor team members to enhance sales effectiveness.
Provide market and customer insights to inform product and marketing strategies.
Support risk management and uphold ethical business practices.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in business, finance, or related field.
Proven success in closing eCommerce deals and engaging with C-level decision-makers.
10+ years of strategic sales experience in merchant payments, with leadership experience managing sales teams for 5+ years.
Track record of achieving quotas and succeeding in fast-growing markets.
Strong strategic selling, negotiation, and communication skills.
Ability to travel up to 50%.
Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
Background check and drug screening required.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced higher education.
Experience with CRM tools, especially Salesforce.com.
Experience working in matrixed organizations and in high-growth fintech firms.
Compensation & Benefits Salary ranges vary by location, e.g., $170,000 - $190,000 in Phoenix and Chicago; $180,000 - $220,000 in San Francisco and New York, with potential for a sales incentive plan and benefits. Compensation is subject to market and individual factors.
Physical & Other Requirements Standard office environment, primarily sedentary work, requiring use of computers, occasional standing, and travel. Must be able to lift 10 pounds and perform essential functions with accommodations if needed.
