FISO (a Resonetics subsidiary) is a leading developer and manufacturer of fiber optic sensors & signal conditioners used in medical, energy, process control, and R&D applications. FISO’s Nortech Transformer Winding Hot Spot Temperature Monitoring System offers direct, real-time, and long-term monitoring of power transformers, which allows for smarter dynamic substation and power grid management.

FISO’s solutions will maximize any transformer’s performance by monitoring its true temperature, which reduces premature aging and allows for intelligent preventive maintenance planning.

We are looking for an experienced Business Development Manager with a deep understanding of power transformers and the utilities sector. This role is focused on identifying and securing new business opportunities with electric utilities, municipalities, and grid operators. The ideal candidate will have strong technical acumen in transformer technologies and a proven ability to navigate complex utility sales cycles.

Responsibilities

Drive business growth by targeting utilities, municipal power authorities, and energy service providers with a need for power and distribution transformers. Develop and manage relationships with utility engineers, procurement teams, and executive stakeholders to understand project needs and position company solutions effectively. Using relationships with key engineers and stakeholders, present FISO’s Nortech solutions and convert utility specifications to allow the company to bid on corresponding projects with transformer manufacturers worldwide Identify new projects (e.g., substation upgrades, grid expansions, renewable integration) and lead proposal and bid development efforts. Partner closely with worldwide direct and indirect sales channels to optimize go-to-market strategy and collaborate on multi-stakeholder projects around the world Partner closely with internal technical teams to ensure transformer designs meet customer specifications and regulatory requirements. Track and respond to RFPs, RFQs, and tenders from public and private utility clients. Stay informed on industry standards (e.g., IEEE, ANSI, NERC), regulatory changes, and utility capital improvement plans. Maintain a robust sales pipeline and forecast performance using CRM tools.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or Business; technical background in transformers is highly preferred. 5+ years of business development or technical sales experience within the utilities sector, focusing on medium-to-high voltage transformers. In-depth knowledge of transformer applications, including generation, transmission, and distribution networks. Proven success managing long sales cycles and navigating public utility procurement processes. Strong interpersonal, presentation, and negotiation skills. Willingness to travel up to 50% across regions, nationally and across the continent.

Preferred Qualifications

Existing relationships with utilities, transformer manufacturers, EPC firms, and key utility consultants in United States and other key countries in Central and South America. Understanding of substation design, power flow studies, or grid modernization efforts.

Physical Demands

Valid U.S. driving license and frequent travel via automobile and commercial flights.

Compensation

The compensation for this role is competitive and will be based on experience and qualifications. The total compensation package range is $145,000-$190,000 annually.
