Program Officer, Climate Change Finance and Multilateral Initiatives The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, based in Menlo Park, California, seeks a collaborative and outcomes-driven Program Officer for an eight-year term to manage a critical portion of the Climate Change Initiative under the Environment Program dealing with Climate Finance and Multilateral Initiatives. The Program Officer will advance the 2024-2029 Climate Strategy, contribute to future strategy development, and build strong relationships with grantee partners, philanthropic peers, academics, policy experts, movement leaders, government officials, and other stakeholders. The role involves engaging in national and international conversations on climate change mitigation and nurturing networks of practitioners and funders to promote solutions.

Work from the Hewlett Foundation’s Menlo Park, California offices 2-3 days per week (Tuesdays and Wednesdays required). Travel is counted as in-office. Must be willing to relocate within six months if currently outside reliable commuting distance. Attend key onboarding activities or meetings in person. About the Environment Program Our goal is to preserve the climate and ecological integrity for economic and societal benefits. We focus on reducing emissions, supporting a transition to a cleaner economy, and working within multilateral frameworks like the UN Climate Convention, G20, and others. We also aim to mobilize global financial resources needed for these transitions. Position Overview The Program Officer will manage approximately $25+ million in annual grants, oversee active grants, engage with partners, and track progress. Reporting to the Environment Program Director, the role involves collaboration with a Program Associate and other staff, with an eight-year term. Key Responsibilities

Manage a grantmaking budget of over $25 million, including forecasting. Support strategic activities beyond grantmaking such as convening and communications. Report on achievements and collaborate on future strategies. Supervise and mentor the Program Associate. Build relationships with grantees, funders, and leaders, providing technical assistance and organizational support. Research emerging issues and opportunities in climate finance. Develop monitoring and evaluation plans, and adapt strategies as needed. Represent the Foundation at meetings and conferences. Qualifications

At least 15 years of relevant experience, with preferred grantmaking background. Expertise in climate change finance, multilateral institutions, and international climate policy. Proven strategic planning, staff, and budget management skills. Strong relationship-building skills and cultural competency. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex themes. High integrity, judgment, and commitment to Hewlett’s principles. Willingness to travel approximately 25% of the time. Compensation & Benefits Salary range: $195,000 - $235,000, based on experience. The Foundation offers a comprehensive benefits package and a housing benefit of about 13% of the salary for the term of the position. Work Environment Based in Menlo Park, CA, with a requirement to work on-site 2-3 days per week and travel about 25% of the time. Extended computer work and travel are expected.
