Position Objective The Tooling Supply Chain (SC) Manager is responsible for sourcing, procurement, quality, cost, logistics, and delivery of operations tooling and field tooling used by Solar’s facilities in the US and Mexico, as well as Solar’s Customer Services globally. This position works closely with Solar’s Service Parts Organization managing external customer acquisitions of durable tooling, a low-volume, highly engineered commodity with multiple suppliers. The focus is on managing supplier metrics to meet goals in people, quality, cost, and velocity, and taking strategic actions when goals are not met. Objectives of the position are to: Ensure suppliers perform to metric expectations and are aligned with Solar’s manufacturing and customer demand. Serve as the industry expert for procurement of durable tooling, developing and executing a supplier sourcing strategy that supports Solar’s growth and cost reduction targets, and driving year-over-year supplier performance improvements. This position reports to the Supply Chain Services Manager and is accountable for developing, communicating, and implementing a worldwide sourcing and demand management strategy for durable tooling. It involves collaborating with Business Unit Managers to develop a competitive supply base, managing a team of supply chain professionals, and maintaining strong relationships with internal customers and external suppliers at senior levels. Knowledge of global sourcing, demand management, procurement principles, quality management, cost modeling, and continuous improvement methodologies is essential. A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is required, along with professional certifications in purchasing or inventory management, and experience with Lean, Six Sigma, and manufacturing processes. The role may require frequent business travel. Principal Responsibilities
Manage quality, delivery, cost, and velocity of purchased materials; develop and mentor the supply chain team; develop and execute a global sourcing strategy; optimize the supply base; ensure supplier performance; lead continuous improvement initiatives; develop capacity within the supply base; and foster strong supplier relationships aligned with Caterpillar’s standards. Develop budgets for supply chain activities, including tooling, supplier development, and sourcing. Minimum Requirements Undergraduate degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or related field Ten years of experience in procurement, management, or manufacturing Preferred Requirements Master’s degree in related fields Fifteen years of experience in procurement, management, or manufacturing Professional certifications such as CPM, CPIM, CIRM Expert manufacturing knowledge, GD&T expertise, Six Sigma Black Belt or Master Black Belt, sponsor experience, and familiarity with ERP systems like Baan or Windchill. - Partial relocation assistance may be offered.
