Manager of Intervention (MIS)
(Full-time, 40 hours) Exempt
BUILD, Inc.
(Broader Urban Involvement and Leadership Development) is presently seeking a committed, self-motivated, and innovative individual to join our team. BUILD is a nationally respected gang intervention, violence prevention, and youth development organization based on Chicago’s West Side. The Manager of Intervention Services (MIS), as part of the BUILD’s Intervention team will work in partnership with the Director of Intervention (DIS) to develop and implement BUILD’s Community Violence Intervention/Interruption (CVI) programs and services. The MIS is responsible for managing BUILD’s Service Coordination and Navigation (SCaN) contract as well as re-entry programs. The MIS is responsible for violence intervention/interruption for youth who are at-risk or involved in gang/street activity, the justice system, perpetrators or victims of violence. The MIS will establish and maintain rapport with local schools, police departments, community partners, and criminal justice institutions to provide services to youth and young adults identified as being involved in high-risk behaviors.
The Manager of Intervention Services will work closely with other program support staff to ensure youth are integrated into other programs and dissuade them from recidivating and/or returning to gangs, destructive activities to themselves, others, and community assets and connecting them in with community resources that will enable them to channel their behavior toward positive behaviors.
A successful MIS will be well organized and able to communicate and collaborate with staff and youth from diverse backgrounds and have a passion for social change. The MIS will report directly to the Director of Intervention Services.
Responsibilities
Works collaboratively with program staff to deliver program services and manage youth. Supports program staff in the development and maintenance of a positive mentor/ mentee relationship. Coordinates community violence intervention/interruption (CVI) outreach and support Responds to violence in communities through outreach, community organizing and canvassing. Works collaboratively with community stake holders, foundations, funders, and community organizations. Manages program data collection and entry to ensure program compliance. Ensures proper attendance, data and records are collected and retained in approved agency databases. Responsible for keeping DIS abreast of progress, changes and challenges in programming and making recommendations for the needs of the program. Support training and development of program staff so they can appropriately engage with the at-risk population. Works in conjunction with the Director of Interventions Services to program goals and expectations Ensures the program provides age-appropriate workshops related to life skills, health, and development awareness. Assist with conflict resolution and dispute mediation. Encourage and support disciplinary consequences and repair of harm through a restorative justice ideology. Model and support the development of conflict resolution through a trauma informed approach. Ensures staff use youth-driven, strength-based methods and ideologies. Maintains a regular meeting schedule with program staff to review and discuss active caseloads. Collaborates with a variety of resources to be an advocate for each participant on caseload. Identifies positive adult/youth influences to create a stronger support network for the participant. Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Highly organized to set priorities, develop a work schedule, and monitor progress towards goals. Ability to build positive working relationships with others, both internally and externally to achieve the goals of the organization. Strong organizational and supervisory skills are required, as well as effective resource management (material and staff) Proven background working collaboratively with groups of diverse backgrounds and experience. Participate in agency outreach and recruitment events, may include but not limited to evenings, weekends and holidays. Ability to maintain a professional decorum when working with youth, in the field or collaborating with external partners. Ability to maintain confidentiality and not share information with Ability to apply strategic and creative thinking, while being persistent, motivated, and energetic, along with the ability to work in a detail-oriented fashion. Strong written and interpersonal communication skills Ability to pass a criminal record and child abuse/neglect registry check. Must have a valid Driver’s License, access to reliable transportation, and willingness to travel locally.
Experience And Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in related field. A minimum of 5 years of management experience in youth development programs. A minimum of 5 years of experience in community violence interruption/reduction services or related field. Experience with youth and/or public program facilitation and management required. Proficient in Windows and Excel required.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift up fifteen pounds at times.? As of October 15, 2021, all BUILD employees are required to submit proof of full vaccination status.
