About this job The Sr Manager, Product Design leads a team of Product Designers in providing innovative end-to-end experiences for CarMax. Building on their knowledge of the customer, our brand, and our omnichannel ecosystem, the Sr Manager translates business strategies into digital-first experiences that are measurable and scalable. In partnership with Product, Strategy, and Engineering, the Sr Manager establishes a vision for future experiences that drives growth while ensuring experience cohesion and quality.
What you will do – Essential Responsibilities
Develop a team of talented Product Designers to deliver on the vision and standards, fostering collaboration, facilitation, and communication. Communicate a clear experience vision to stakeholders, simplifying complexity and generating excitement based on human-centered design principles. Champion and inform the vision and standards for CarMax experience design and practices. Partner with Product and Engineering leadership to establish priorities and objectives for Product Programs aligned with the Product Vision for Retail or Supply experiences. Work with Strategy and Product teams to understand consumer needs, opportunities, and pain points, supporting an iterative design and discovery process. Manage the creation of visual artifacts (prototypes, wireframes, sketches, journey maps, personas) building on our design system practices. Contribute to the evolution of the CarMax Design System. Stay current on tools, principles, and practices in experience design and development, advocating for continuous improvement. Lead and facilitate organized, productive meetings and brainstorming sessions. Create role expectations and leverage industry standards to advance UX practices. Develop associates to reach their full potential through goal understanding, development partnerships, and feedback. Manage resourcing for the product roadmap aligned with business needs and growth goals. Qualifications and Requirements
8+ years experience in user experience and UX design/development. 2+ years leading user experience teams. BA/BS degree. Portfolio or work samples demonstrating experience in design, creativity, and thoughtfulness, with fluency in UX Design, Visual Design, and Front End Development. Passion for technology and design, with industry trend awareness. Strong communication skills to explain complex concepts to stakeholders. Good listening skills, considering multiple perspectives. Collaborative, team-oriented approach. Solid understanding of user-centered design processes, balancing customer needs with business goals. Experience facilitating brainstorming and product discovery sessions. Experience leveraging user research. Strong UX design principles and deliverables (wireframes, site maps, personas, etc.). Ability to quickly convert ideas into design artifacts. Strong visual design principles and critique skills. Critical thinking and analytical skills. Experience managing and mentoring UX designers. Experience designing for web, mobile, and tablet applications. Experience with Agile development processes. Responsive/adaptive design experience is a plus. E-commerce experience is a plus.
