Summary:
Under general supervision, provides executive secretarial services for a school principal, relieving administrative duties. Requires skills in computer operation, correspondence, records, reports, and files. Uses independent judgment and interacts with the public and staff. May supervise lower-level clerical staff. Minimum Qualifications
Hold the permanent title of Secretary to School Principal or be reachable on the Civil Service List. High School Diploma or GED. Five years secretarial experience with computer applications, or Secretarial/Business School degree/certificate. Thorough knowledge of executive secretarial responsibilities, business terminology, procedures, and equipment. Proficiency in business English, spelling, arithmetic, and computer software (word processing, spreadsheets, email, database). Ability to understand and follow complex instructions, compose/edit routine correspondence, handle administrative details independently, and maintain records. Typing speed of 35 words per minute. Ability to operate office machines and develop good working relationships. Primary Activities
Compose documents and correspondence for school administrators. Maintain the principal's calendar and assist in planning school events. Maintain documents, files, and records for reference and compliance. Prepare purchase orders and maintain inventories. Assist visitors, answer phones, and handle mail. Schedule appointments and respond to inquiries. Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal. Physical and Work Environment Requires standing, walking, sitting, reading, writing, speaking, and handling objects. Occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Work is indoors with typical school noise levels and frequent interaction with staff and the public. Salary $35,000 - $70,000 annually. Last updated June 2016. Additional Information
