Reporting to the Division Vice President, Philanthropy (DVP), the Executive Director, Philanthropy (ED) will oversee a team of front-line philanthropy professionals with direct fundraising goals. The ED will build and lead this team to secure outright gifts and pledges from individual donors, aiming to meet or exceed ambitious annual and multi-year fundraising targets. The ED will work with the VP and colleagues across Philanthropy and Beth Israel Lahey Health (BILH) to develop and execute strategic plans for the major gifts program, focusing on securing six- and seven-figure commitments. They will also contribute to a multi-year campaign and foster volunteer, leadership, and physician engagement to strengthen the prospect pipeline. Additionally, the ED will manage a personal portfolio of prospects and may oversee philanthropy activities in specific clinical or specialty areas. Job Description:Primary Responsibilities:
Participate in senior leadership meetings with the VP. Establish and implement fundraising strategies and goals with the DVP. Contribute to planning a multi-year campaign supporting BILH’s priorities. Manage and develop fundraising staff, setting and reviewing goals. Support colleagues in donor visits and strategy development. Collaborate on cultivation and recognition events and experiences. Work with Prospect Management and Research to identify and qualify prospects. Coordinate outreach efforts with colleagues across BILH. Engage with volunteers, physicians, and boards to increase engagement and giving. Provide guidance and support to senior management, physicians, and volunteers in donor activities. Manage a portfolio of 30-50 donors and prospects to meet fundraising goals. Define fundraising projects or focus areas, working with Prospect Research as needed. Maintain accurate donor activity records in Raiser’s Edge. Attend related meetings and events. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required; graduate degree preferred. 10-12 years of philanthropy experience, with a successful record in major gifts; healthcare experience is a plus. Strong leadership skills and ability to influence and inspire teams and stakeholders. Strategic thinker with the ability to prioritize and remove barriers to success. Excellent communicator with interpersonal skills, integrity, and professionalism. Proven success in all aspects of individual giving, including major gifts. Ability to secure six- and seven-figure commitments. Effective at engaging with diverse constituencies across all levels of the organization. Comfortable managing multiple priorities in a dynamic environment. Discreet handling of sensitive information. Willingness to travel as needed.
