Director of the Externships Program
oversees all aspects of the Law School’s Externship Program, a crucial component of the experiential learning offerings. The Director coordinates three interconnected components: Advising law students seeking externships (domestic & international) and overseeing their supervision once placed; Working with field placement and field placement supervisors to coordinate the placement and ensure compliance with BCLS externship policies; Managing and advising adjunct faculty who teach externship seminars. The Program Director ensures compliance with ABA Accreditation Standards, supports student education, maintains the program's reputation, and upholds ABA standards. Each semester, approximately 55 students extern, completing around 350 credits. This position collaborates with students, faculty, alumni, staff, and supervisors at field placements. It oversees about 10 faculty members annually and makes recommendations for hiring adjuncts. Essential functions include:
Developing and maintaining relationships with employers and judiciary members; recruiting and supporting externship placements, including programs in Dublin and DC. Providing academic advising and supervision to students during externships. Managing program administration, ensuring ABA compliance, and analyzing data related to externships. Managing tracking platforms and creating/updating program materials and website content. Assisting in faculty recruitment and course syllabus development. Maintaining relationships with externship sites and supervisors. Evaluating the quality of externship experiences and intervening when issues arise. Salary range: $83,950 to $104,950, commensurate with experience. Requirements
JD from an accredited law school Excellent writing, editing, public speaking skills, and ability to work with diverse constituents including students Experience managing and developing legal programs Minimum of five years in career placement, externships, internships, or experiential learning Externship seminars are held in the evenings; occasional attendance is required. Travel to field placements may be necessary.
