The Director of Maintenance is responsible for managing and directing the Maintenance Department. Duties entail supervising the maintenance staff and handling the daily overall operations of the facilities.

The Director will work with all departments at The Children’s Center of Hamden and will deal regularly with various vendors and outside contractors. The Director of Maintenance will make decisions regarding the daily functioning of the department and will obtain approval for major operational changes and financial expenditure. This individual shall be aware of and sensitive to the cultural diversity of the client population. The Director of Maintenance reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

Accountable And Responsible For The Following Results

Proactively manage all aspects of facilities including maintenance, custodial, and security services. Responsible for overall management of the maintenance department, including the hiring, training, scheduling and performance evaluation of staff. Effectively manages union staff by understanding the terms and processes set forth in the collective bargaining agreement. Inspect campus daily to ensure facilities are maintained to standard. Oversee the functionality, comfort, safety and efficiency of the facilities. Effectively maintains agency work order system. Develop strong relationships with outside contractors for regular maintenance and service contracts. Manage facilities budgets, including forecasting and approving maintenance expenses. Ensure cost-effectiveness of vendor services and supplies. Prepare monthly reports for department leaders and management. Oversee and ensures maintenance of grounds, lawn care, and snow removal. Develop and monitor policies and strategies to provide ongoing assessment and maintenance of a safe environment for youth and families served in program. Implements and maintains ongoing safety and security checks of equipment and regularly attends safety committee meetings. Responsible for ensuring that tools, machinery, and equipment are properly secure when not in use and not accessible to youth. Maintains all required agency mandatory training. Maintains appropriate personal boundaries with young people and families served at The Children's Center of Hamden. Adheres to The Children’s Center of Hamden’s Boundary Code of Ethics. Is aware of the Policy and Procedure Manuals and can access information as needed. Minimum Qualifications

Strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills; working knowledge of general maintenance trades; licensing preferred. Ability to effectively supervise and manage a group of employees.
