$88,670 / year Description The Center Director is responsible for promoting the mission of ABCD Head Start & Children’s Services; building an understanding of the center by communicating this mission to staff, families, and the community. This position must comply with all federal, state, and local laws, regulations, standards, and policies, including those of the federal Administration for Children and Families (ACF), the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) licensing regulations and Quality Rating Improvement Systems (QRIS) guidelines, National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Accreditation Criteria, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), Massachusetts disability law (Chapter 766), Boston Family Engagement Network (BFEN), and ABCD, Inc. Head Start & Children’s Services policies and procedures. All ABCD Head Start & Children’s Services personnel who are paid to care for or work with children are MANDATED BY LAW to report all suspected cases of child abuse and neglect to the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families (DCF), pursuant to Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 119 §§ 51A – 51G. Any staff member who suspects child abuse or neglect must inform their supervisor immediately. The responsibilities of a particular position may support both Early Head Start and Head Start depending on the individual assignment. The specific funding allocation will be documented accordingly. All communications are potentially sensitive and are subject to Head Start's policy on confidentiality. Key ResponsibilitiesESSENTIAL DUTIES:Center Management and Operations (70%)

Ensure all staff support and implement the delivery of high-quality services for each content area. Maintain a safe, clean, and developmentally appropriate environment that meets all licensing standards. Plan, convene, and document staff and parent engagement meetings and activities, including orientation, Parent Committee meetings, Policy Council, training, and community meetings. Implement a developmentally appropriate and culturally responsive curriculum as prescribed by the Head Start Central Office. Develop and monitor recruitment plans to maintain full enrollment and a waitlist. Ensure staff participation in recruitment efforts. Inspect the facility regularly, submit repair requests, and oversee maintenance. Complete applications and reports for licensing, accreditation, and QRIS. Participate in staff meetings and training sessions. Maintain accurate, confidential records as required by licensing and policies. Engage with the community to promote services and goals. Comply with all operational requirements, including reporting, drills, and documentation. Collaborate on the annual local budget and manage the center’s finances. Ensure the center is stocked with necessary materials and supplies. Develop and monitor center agreements and contracts. Build relationships with public schools, higher education, and community agencies. Participate in community assessments and self-evaluation processes. Perform other duties as assigned. Staff Supervision (30%)

Recruit, interview, and recommend staff for employment or termination. Supervise and evaluate all center personnel and volunteers. Conduct performance appraisals and professional development plans. Onboard new staff and ensure ongoing training. Schedule staff to meet ratios and service needs. Evaluate ongoing professional development activities. Perform other duties as assigned. Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Experience working with diverse staff and candidates. Proven team collaboration skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google applications; ability to learn new systems. Attention to detail and high efficiency. Knowledge of State licensing and Head Start standards. Strong understanding of early childhood best practices. Ability to handle multiple tasks and stressful situations professionally. Ability to interpret policies and maintain confidentiality. Strong organizational and time management skills. Willingness to engage in ongoing professional development. Willingness to travel frequently for events and training. Education & Experience Minimum of three years of leadership/management experience, preferably in Head Start, and a Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, human services management, or a related field.
