Position Summary:

The Payroll Supervisor, under the direction of the Payroll Manager, oversees the payroll department's daily operations and ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll for all employees. Provides customer service to internal and external customers, and ensures compliance with applicable federal and state regulations. Maintains payroll work calendar, ensuring the timely payment and reporting of payroll withholdings and pay. Acts as liaison to internal departments and provides guidance to payroll staff, building working relationships, and resolving or escalating issues as they arise.

Critical Tasks:

Oversees the day-to-day operations of the Payroll Department. Runs the processing of payroll. Monitors compliance with approved policies and procedures. Ensures the accuracy of payroll information through review, audit, and analysis of employee time sheets, payroll records and reports. Ensures payroll is processed timely and accurately in accordance with federal, state and local regulations. Responds to questions and provides customer service to internal and external customers regarding payroll matters. Ensures compliance with payroll-related regulations regarding wage garnishments, taxes and other deductions. Trains and supervises payroll staff, ensuring payroll staff are organized and meets deadlines. Maintains the confidentiality of all employee information and payroll records. Coordinates day-to-day activities and communication between Payroll Department and other internal departments in accordance with set priorities. Provides information on systems and processes, and guidance on issues as appropriate. Escalates high level issues and all service issues to Payroll Manager. Communicates technical and confidential information to all levels of employees and outside agencies as appropriate. Provides timely responses to requests for clarification and interpretation of data. Ensures accurate accounting and reporting on all payroll related feeds to finance. Performs and oversees accurate, correct, and timely payroll reconciliations and audits, and troubleshoots any issues that arise. Reconciles and completes quarterly and annual federal and state tax reporting, including Forms W-2 and correction reports as required. Stays current, complies with and provides interpretations on various rules, regulations, laws, contracts and policies. May work auditors to resolve problems and provide requested information. Performs other related duties or projects as assigned. Required Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED required. Three years' progressively responsible experience related to area of assignment, including two years a Lead/Supervisor and/or successful completion of a leadership training program. Experience in applying complex salary and compensation calculations; effectively and accurately communicating both in writing and verbally; using spreadsheet and word processing software. Understands basic accounting principles; payroll processing; tax withholding; analyzes and interprets data for accuracy; and how to research laws, regulations, codes and/or statutes related to payroll. Demonstrated ability to relate to diverse cultures and specifically the Gila River Community and other Native American cultures.
