TheAEMTfunctions within the Emergency Department as a team with the Physicians, Registered Nurses (RN) and Physicians Assistants (PA). TheAEMTwill toadhere to the Hospital's Standards of Patient Care to deliver safe, quality patient care in theInter/Intra-Facilityand Emergency Department settings. TheAEMTperforms all treatments and procedures within the scope ofAEMTpractice and as outlined in the Standards Manual, Protocols, Policies and Procedures and Practice Guidelines.Patient Population Served:This employee is expected to deliver patient care in a manner that is appropriate topatient'sage, physical ability, and intellectual development. TheAEMTmustdemonstrateproficiencyin assessment and treatment, and the ability to adapt care to meet the needs of neonatal, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients.Essential Position Functions: TheShift Supervisormust be able to be carry out the following functions with or without reasonable accommodation:Respond to AmbulanceRequestsWill be required to drive a motor vehicle in the course of theseduties;must adhere to the Driver/ Fleet SafetyPolicyandEMSpoliciesonvehicleoperations. Operate the ambulance in a manner that is safe and effective, keeping crew, public, patient and equipment safety inmind. Provide foradequate ambulance coverage for the community to include communicating with the Charge/Supervisor,ordispatch tofacilitatecoverageofallrequests.Maintains the ambulances in a continuing state of readiness to includemaintaininga clean vehicle that is properly stocked and performing a complete inspection of all engine and vehiclesystems.Knowledge of the geographyservedand surrounding communities.Complete all TEMSIS reports, billing documents andappropriate chargesfor ambulance requests within 24hours,orincasesinvolvingcriticalcare,4hours.Assessment of Emergency and Non-Emergency Patients to Scope of CareInterviews patients and caregiver/family on presentation to obtain a bio-psycho-social history relevant to reason forpresentation.Examines the patient's physicalstatus.Reviews all test results includingEKG,lab, and x-ray for ongoing assessment and reporting tophysicians.Reassesses patient status at establishedtimeframes.Completes all required documentation in both EMS Charts andMediTech.Communicates patient needs/assessment to physicians and interdepartmental services involved in the patient'scare.Ensuresthorough,accuratedocumentationofrelevantdataobtainedduringtheassessmentprocess.Conducts rounding in the Emergency Department when not engaged in otheractivities.Ensures sensitivity towards patients and caregiver/family by eliciting patient's physical and emotional concerns, being a receptive listener, and providing an environment conducive to interviewing and the delivery ofcare.Develops an emergency care plan, in the prehospital setting, that is individualized to patientneeds ,strengths and weaknesses and according to written protocol and MedicalControl.In conjunction with other HCPs, coordinates the in-hospital interdisciplinary plan ofcare.Facilitates the patient and caregiver/family participation in the planning and delivery ofcare.Acknowledges,coordinatesandimplementsphysicianorders.Administers medicationsin accordance withState and hospital policy and monitors fordesired,sideor adverseeffects.Implements the plan of care, monitoring for effectiveness in a team format. TheAEMTmust report to the RNpatientcondition and status of treatment plan prior to leaving for an ambulancecall.Assiststhe physician and other healthcare providers in administering treatments andprocedures.Applies behavior and supportive therapy approaches with individuals and groups toaccomplishgoals andfacilitatethe delivery ofcare.Reviews and updates treatment plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinaryteam,thepatientand the family.Accepts patient or room assignments in coordination with and as directed by the chargenurse.Maintains a safe therapeutic environment for patients, families, staff, and corrects hazards promptly.Adheres to hospital safety policy andprocedure.Documents all pertinent information on the patient's medical record and patient care report inan accurate, detailedmanneradheringtoproceduresforcharting.CompletesdocumentationinatimelymannerParticipates actively in department meetings; ensuring attendanceata minimumof50% of scheduled meetings.Supports Department's customer service efforts. Provides service excellence to patients and their families, medical staff, peers and support services and other hospital personnel. Provides immediate and satisfactory problem resolution for valid customer complaints or refers complex customer service problems to the Director ofEMS.Demonstrates knowledge of, and support for, hospital Mission and Values Statement, department goals andobjectives.Assistsin the formation and accomplishment of unit goals andobjectives.Develops andmaintainsprofessionalrelationshipwith physicians, peers, nursing, physician's assistants, patients and their families, and medical supportservices.Follows the principles of infection control as outlined in the Policy and ProcedureManual. Demonstrates ability to provide care, which meets the physical,psychologicalandemotional,needs of the pediatric,adolescent,adult,andgeriatricpatient.Precepts students and ride-alongsas assigned; students will be treated with respect with the goal ofassistingthe student to meet clinical requirements. Staffisrequired to complete all evaluation documents and forward any issues to the Director ofEMS.Participates in the department's Performance Improvement program by collaborating with the department's PI representative in developing and implementing effective programs.Must be able tofacilitateand manage the HospitalDeconTeam, and be active on the Emergency Preparedness TeamAssistsHospital-wide,whennecessary,andrespondstoallcodesasanintegralpartoftheteam.Demonstrates a commitment tocontainingcosts and efficient use of materialresources.Assumes responsibility for own professional development and on-going education. Attends required hours of continuing professional education per year.
