Back End Software Engineer
General Atomics Integrated Intelligence, Inc. (GA-I3), an affiliate of General Atomics, maintains and deploys production solutions for users across the Intelligence Community, Department of Defense, and commercial industry. We build and develop best-in-class, all-domain, and globally focused situational awareness capabilities that process petabytes of data from numerous streaming data sources in near real time. Our systems apply state-of-the-art algorithms and machine learning techniques to extract features and fuse data from multiple phenomenologies to form a rich live view of objects in the sky, on the sea, and on the ground. These analytics are designed to determine not just where something is, but what it is, where it's been, and what it's doing. All of this 'data to knowledge' is made available to end users in our own browser-based application for visualization, analysis, and understanding. We always want to do more, and that's where you come in! GA-i3 is looking for a Back End Software Engineer to join our Commercial-International team, which builds, deploys, monitors, and maintains our streaming geospatial data platform. Our system handles billions of records daily and houses petabytes of historical information, enabling rich and impactful analytics, giving users the ability to track the most relevant information in real time or dive into detailed history. The Platform team's goal is to support and evolve the architecture of this system while providing development teams the framework to develop and test quality software within it. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Determine user requirements and specifications and plan for software development within the broader organizational scope. Formulate detailed plans for the implementation of software solutions. In addition to program design, this includes determining language, platform, and resource requirements. Implementation of design including coding, testing, and documentation. Deployment of applications across the enterprise, including cross-platform compliance and ensuring availability of necessary resources. Code maintenance including debugging and updating to keep pace with the evolving environment. Assist in planning for future applications based on new developments in computer technology. Communicate with the software developer group, users, and management, as well as with the wider community through the publishing and presentation of technical papers. Maintain the strict confidentiality of sensitive information. Perform other duties as assigned. Responsible for observing all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company. Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices. Job Qualifications: U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility, and willing to take a CI polygraph. Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in computer science, information systems or a related discipline and progressive software development experience as follows; four or more years of experience with a bachelors degree or two or more years of experience with a masters degree. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education. Must have a general understanding of software development concepts, principles, and theory and demonstrate the ability to apply programming and analysis concepts. Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment while organizing work assignments to meet established timetables. Strong communication, computer, and interpersonal skills are required to enable an effective interface with other professionals, produce appropriate documentation, and present results to an internal audience. The ability to work independently and as part of a team is essential. Must be able to work extended hours as required. Up to 50% travel internationally PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: CompTIA Security+ certification or willingness to get certified An interest in geospatial data and analytics Experience with AWS infrastructure and tooling Knowledge of database technologies (e.g., PostgreSQL or other relational databases) Experience with cloud technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, HBase, Accumulo, Storm Experience with deployment technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, Knative, Helm, Rancher Familiarity with DevOps concepts Curious and excited to learn new technologies Able to coordinate with a small team of engineers Excited about designing and building reliable platform services A collaborative problem solver Passionate about understanding our customer's needs and mission Comfortable working with Linux systems on a daily basis Comfortable with version control and Git Salary: $98,100 - $171,398
