Answers, identifies and prioritizes emergency and non-emergency calls and requests for service. Assesses, analyzes, evaluates and processes emergency and/or routine requests for law enforcement, medical and/or related services/assistance. Tracks location and availability of law enforcement and other service responders. Monitors and maintains contact with situation and individuals involved.Conducts regular and periodic checks regarding status of officers and others dispatched to calls. Accesses a variety of local, state and/or national databases, researches information and responds to requests for data and information. Updates and maintains a variety of files and records. Logs calls and related information into electronic and/or manual recording systems.Operates a computer to maintain information and data. Typical QualificationsMinimum QualificationsA high school diploma or GED AND one (1) year of customer service or secretarial experience. Emergency services dispatching experience, or experience, paid or volunteered, in a law enforcement agency, or completion of a POST Dispatcher training course, or courses in Administration of Justice and/or Criminal Justice is PREFERRED. Typing Qualification/Certification of 40 wpm must be attached to your application. License and Certification RequirementsMust have and maintain a valid California Class C Driver's License. Must be willing to work varying hours, rotating shifts and be willing to work weekends and holiday shifts. Must be able to pass a comprehensive background investigation including a polygraph exam and psychological evaluation. Must have at the time of application, or be able to obtain within twelve (12) months from hire date and maintain, a State of California Police Officer Standards and Training (POST) Dispatcher Certificate.Successful completion of a pre-employment background check and physical is required.Supplemental InformationWorking ConditionsThe work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. New hires with no CalPERS service as of January 1, 2013, will pay 7% of the employee rate and will be subject to the 2% @ 62 Plan, with 3 Year Average formula and a mandatory contribution of normal costs as established by the new Pension Reform Act Law. The City also participates in Social Security. AGENCY SHOP/DUES DEDUCTIONS: Employees may choose to join IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) and pay their service fee in an amount not to exceed the standard initiation fee, periodic dues and general assessments of IBEW. CITY PAID BENEFITS: City employees can participate in an employer paid CalPERS mid-tier HMO Healthcare Plan. Participating employees also provides cafeteria benefit money to use for dental, vision, life, and supplemental benefits. Employees who reside within City limits shall receive $150 per month as a discount against the cost of electric and water service during the period of such residency. DISABILITY INSURANCE: Employees pay for a short/long term disability plan with a 7-day elimination period. HOLIDAYS/VACATION/SICK/BEREAVEMENT LEAVE: City employees receive thirteen (13) paid holidays, plus one (1) floating holiday per year. After completion of probation period: Ten (10) days annual vacation, additional vacation after five (5) years up to a maximum of twenty (20) days. Twelve (12) days of sick leave per year. Up to five (5) working days of bereavement leave for immediate family members.
