Base Work Hours: 7.25 hours (5:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.)

SUMMARY:

The Food Service Cook provides support in our student nutrition program by assisting the Kitchen Manager and the Food Service Supervisor in the overall management and organization of the food service program all while providing excellent customer service to staff, students and families.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Reports to Head Kitchen Manager Must be able to operate slicer, steam kettles, grinder, ovens, steamer, cash register, dish machine, large mixer and braiser. Unlocks doors to all storage rooms, freezers and coolers. Turn on all lights, ovens, hot carts, steamer and cash registers. Take and log freezer and all refrigerator temperatures. Fill and turn on dishmachine. Set up breakfast line. Stock paper products on breakfast lines. Every Monday pull Grill speedy rack from freezer. Prepare hot breakfast items. Record beginning food counts on Breakfast Food Production Record (FPR). Once food is cooked take temperatures and record on FPR. Take hot food out to serving line. Replenish food on serving line(s) as needed. Restock breakfast cabinet. Make breakfast sandwiches for out schools. Prepare entrees per menu for HHS, Pathway/AIC and put into hot carts. Record beginning food counts on Lunch FPR's. Once food is cooked take temperatures and record on FPR. Prepare food entree or side dishes as needed for Elementary and Middle Schools. Label with food name, what school, date and include quantity. Take dirty dishes to the dishroom as needed.Keep serving work space clean and sanitized. During lunches, batch cook more entrees if needed or set out more food for lines, or help serve, or help run a cash register. If cashiering, perform cash out procedure at the end of the last lunch and take drawer to office. Dishes as time permits. Make sure ceiling tiles, lights and walls in kitchen are free from dust once a month Clean and sanitize steamer and kettle, if used, daily. Once a month delime steamer. Clean kitchen bathroom per schedule set by Kitchen Manager. Help clean coolers, ovens, hot carts, and other equipment according to schedule. Must be able to lift 25 lbs. Regular, predictable in-person attendance. Any other duties assigned by the Kitchen Manager or Food Service Supervisor. Note:

Food Service Employees running a register must maintain confidentiality regarding student accounts and need to keep all computer register components clean and free of dust. This includes: computer register/monitor, keyboard, mouse, cord and computer stand.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :

High school diploma (or equivalent); and must pass a basic math skills test.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written English language; Ability to read and comprehend instructions; Ability to work with the general public and students. COMPUTER SKILLS :

Basic computer skills. QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS:

Ability to perform duties with awareness of District requirements and Board policies / administrative guidelines; Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to communicate effectively, speaking clearly and communicating thoughts succinctly; Ability to react well under pressure, handle and balance multiple demands at one time, work with frequent interruptions and perform duties and tasks at expected levels of professionalism with minimal supervision; Accurate and detail oriented; and Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, parents, teachers, administration and the school community.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS :

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to coordinate hands, eyes, feet and limbs in performing semi-skilled movements such as cooking, washing dishes and operation of a computer keyboard, cash register, and telephone. The employee is required to be on his/her feet walking around the cafeteria and food service department building for several hours at a time. The employee is required to exert physical effort in work involving lifting, carrying, pushing, walking, standing, reaching with hands and arms, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds from floor to waist height. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.

ENVIRONMENTAL ADAPTABILITY :

The work environment characteristics described herein are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The noise level in the work environment is moderately loud. The work environment is normally indoors with controlled climate conditions. Occasionally the employee may be required to be outdoors for a short period of time, and therefore subject to varying weather conditions, for purposes of accomplishing the essential functions of this job. This position requires the employee to work in different building cafeteria and food service departments as needed. The ability to travel via employee's automobile between buildings is required.
