Lead Member of Technical Staff - Agent Engineering

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Lead Member of Technical Staff to join our Agent Engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for leading the design, development, and deployment of advanced AI agents for Agentforce, focusing on the intersection of AI, RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation), LLMs, and multi-agent systems. Responsibilities: Lead the end-to-end design, development, and deployment of intelligent agents and agentic systems for Agentforce using AI, LLMs, and RAG techniques. Help drive the technical roadmap for agent development at Salesforce, with a focus on generative AI services, pipelines, and components. Research, evaluate, and integrate the latest LLM algorithms and technologies into our agent solutions. Develop and implement robust RAG pipelines to enhance the accuracy, relevance, and contextual understanding of our agents, including robust mechanisms for citations. Design, develop, and integrate guardrails for large language models (LLMs) to ensure responsible and ethical behavior of AI agents. Design and build frameworks for agent orchestration, communication, and collaboration within a multi-agent environment. Foster a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning. Participate actively in the end-to-end AI product development lifecycle, from ideation to deployment and post-launch optimization. Collaborate closely with product managers, researchers, AI Platform Engineers, and other Software Engineers to define requirements, design solutions, and develop reusable workflows and ML pipelines for Agentforce. Contribute to code reviews, ensure code quality, and promote best practices in software development. Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues related to agent performance, scalability, and reliability. Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies in AI and agent systems. Required Skills and Experience: 8+ years of professional software development experience, with at least 1+ years focused on AI/ML applications and building AI systems and/or services. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related STEM field. Deep expertise in Artificial Intelligence (AI) principles. Proven experience with Large Language Models (LLMs), including fine-tuning, prompt engineering, and deployment strategies. Strong practical experience with Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) systems, including vector databases, indexing, retrieval algorithms, and knowledge graph integration. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python (preferred) or Java. Solid understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and experience with deploying AI/ML models at scale. Experience with distributed, scalable systems and modern data storage, messaging, and processing frameworks. Experience with MLOps practices. Demonstrated ability to lead technical initiatives, drive innovation, and mentor other engineers. Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills. Desired Skills and Experience: Familiarity with Salesforce platform technologies and APIs. Experience in natural language understanding (NLU) and natural language generation (NLG). Extensive experience in designing, developing, and deploying intelligent agents and multi-agent systems. Experience with the implementation of citations and guardrails. Why Salesforce? For California-based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $200,800 to $276,100.
