Main Purpose of Job

The Police Communication Operators will provide the full performance level of communications work within DGS Maryland Capital Police (MCP). This will be accomplished by operating the Computer Assisted Dispatch/Records Management System and multi-channel police radio equipment.

POSITION DUTIES

Duties to include but not limited to: • Receives and transmits information via multi-channel radio. • Receives, directs and handles all telephone communications coming into the Police Communications Center and accurately record information within the CAD/RMS. • Monitors security cameras for criminal or suspicious activity and dispatch appropriate personnel. • Monitors intrusion alarms, fire alarms, parking lot access control, and respond appropriately. • Operates NCIC/METERS terminal and provide requested information in a timely manner. • Responsible for maintaining shift reports, NCIC log, METERS log, and other paperwork required. • Responds appropriately, communicate clearly and precisely in emergency situations and remain professional when dealing with employees, contractors, visitors, and the general public. • Any duty or responsibility required to allow DGS-MCP the ability to fulfill its overall mission.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience:

One year of experience operating multi-channel radios, keyboards or computer terminals in a law enforcement or related operation.

Note : Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Operations Specialist classifications or Signal Corps, Cyberspace Support, or Communications specialty codes in the communications field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Strong preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding all qualifications. • One (1) year or more experience in a public safety communications or dispatch center. • Prior certification or experience with

terminal operations. • Familiarity with radio communications protocols and procedures. • Ability to multi-task effectively in high-pressure or emergency situations. • Strong attention to detail with accurate data entry and recordkeeping skills. • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities. • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and maintain professionalism during stressful situations.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Emergency Essential Status:

This position is designated as emergency essential. Employees must be available and willing to report for duty during adverse weather, emergencies, and other critical events to maintain 24/7 operations.

Pre-Employment Physical:

Candidates selected for hire will be required to successfully complete a Pre-Employment Physical to ensure they can safely perform the essential functions of the position.

Background Check : A comprehensive background investigation, including fingerprinting and criminal history check, will be conducted prior to appointment.

Shift Work : Must be available to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.

Certifications:

Must successfully complete all required training and certifications, including NCIC/MILES certification, within established timeframe.

The examination for this position will consist of a rating of your education, training and experience related to the requirements of the position. The eligibility list will be valid for one year and may be extended. The list will be used by the hiring authority to select employees for interviews. Eligible lists may be used to fill future vacancies of the same classification.

Please note, selected candidates may be required to complete and successfully pass a State and Federal fingerprint background check prior to being hired.
