Shop Manager - Scenic & Technical Builds Reports To

Shop Lead, Production Manager Works Closely With Logistics Manager Shop Lead Production Manager Scenic/Construction Teams Job Summary

The Shop Manager is responsible for maintaining an efficient, safe, and well-stocked shop environment supporting the construction of scenic elements and technical builds for live entertainment. This role supervises shop operations, manages inventory and supplies, coordinates with logistics, and steps in as a supervisor when the shop lead is unavailable. Strong candidates will demonstrate leadership, a deep understanding of shop culture, and expertise in a variety of construction materials and methods. Key Responsibilities Supervise daily shop operations, ensuring a clean, organized, and safe workspace. Maintain inventory of all shop supplies, tools, and materials; perform regular upkeep and maintenance and or hire outside vendors to perform proper work needed. Order and source materials as needed; make material runs to suppliers. Coordinate with the logistics department for deliveries, shipping, and receiving for multiple shows. Collaborate with the production manager and shop lead to meet build timelines and project milestones. Step in as acting supervisor in the absence of the shop lead. Assist in hands-on construction and fabrication when extra help is needed. Uphold and promote positive shop culture and enforce safety protocols. Train and mentor junior staff and new hires as needed. Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Proven leadership and supervisory experience in a scenic or technical shop environment. Strong understanding of shop culture and team dynamics. Extensive knowledge of materials used in scenic construction (wood, metal, plastics, fabrics, paints, etc.). Experience with shop maintenance, inventory management, and equipment upkeep. Ability to collaborate across departments and communicate effectively at all levels. Hands-on building/fabrication skills; able to assist crew with construction tasks as needed. Valid driver's license for material runs and deliveries. Ability to prioritize, multitask, and work under tight deadlines. Preferred Qualifications Experience in entertainment, events, or theatrical production shops. Familiarity with logistics, shipping, and receiving processes.
