Position Overview

The News-Review, a leading source for local journalism in Douglas County, is seeking a dynamic and versatile

Multimedia Journalist

with a primary focus on video content creation for our website and social platforms. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with strong visual storytelling skills, a keen news sense, and the ability to meet tight deadlines while producing high-quality, engaging multimedia stories.

This role combines traditional reporting responsibilities with a strong emphasis on

video journalism , making it perfect for someone who can confidently pitch, shoot, edit, and publish compelling digital content independently and collaboratively.

Key Responsibilities

Video Production : Create news and feature video content for digital publication; shoot, script, and edit videos using Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, After Effects) or similar tools.

Reporting : Gather information and write clear, engaging articles that adhere to AP Style for print and online publication.

Photography : Take photos to accompany video and written stories; double-check cutlines and ensure visual consistency.

Digital Engagement : Post stories and video content promptly to nrtoday.com and promote them via social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, etc.).

Story Generation : Stay alert for story leads and community issues; pitch original ideas regularly.

Collaboration : Work closely with editors and reporters to produce rich multimedia storytelling packages.

In-Depth Coverage : Produce a major enterprise or in-depth multimedia story package at least every other month.

Quota : Generate at least 4-5 bylined videos per week.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in journalism, multimedia, communications, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

Proven experience with video storytelling and editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut, DaVinci Resolve).

Solid understanding of journalistic ethics and accuracy.

Familiarity with AP Style and SEO best practices.

Demonstrated ability to manage time, meet multiple deadlines, and produce quality work under pressure.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, especially in interviews and public interactions.

Proficiency in social media as a tool for storytelling and audience engagement.

Photography experience and AP style writing experience strongly preferred.

Additional Expectations

Carry camera and video equipment to all events as needed.

Communicate with editors and staff to ensure every story has appropriate visuals and supporting media.

Be proactive in updating the website with breaking news and multimedia packages.

Maintain ethical standards and represent the newsroom professionally in all public interactions.
