Dialysis Tech

Involves the provision of services to patients requiring dialysis. Encompasses patient advocacy and innovative patient care through encouraging family participation and soliciting patient and family feedback. Involves the operation and servicing of equipment and system, during and between dialysis runs, and for instruction of patients and family members. Assists the professional staff in the delivery of the hemodialysis treatment for the ESRD patient. Job Responsibilities: Patient Care - Under the delegation of the Medical Director of Dialysis and direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Dialysis Technician performs and monitors dialysis procedures. Environment - Set up, dismantle, and monitor dialysis machines and systems. Monitor dialysis machines and RO water system for correct functioning, respond to visual and audible alarms and make appropriate adjustments before, during, and after the dialysis treatment. Dismantle, clean, and disinfect dialysis machines and equipment according to CCHMC policies and procedures. Ensures that within the division, all areas are organized and present a safe, accessible, effective and efficient environment for patients, families, visitors, and employees. Adhere to safety procedures appropriate to children's ages and development levels. Fiscal Responsibility - Demonstrates fiscal responsibility and accountability with respect to patient charges and Cincinnati Children's charge capture. Performs duties related to charging and reconciling charges as assigned. Communication - Demonstrates the Cincinnati Children's CARES behaviors in all interactions with patients, families, visitors and co-workers by actively participating as a front-line example of extraordinary customer service and satisfaction. Reports present status or changes in patient condition on an ongoing basis and in change of shift summary. Completes timely documentation of information in the patient medical record. Seek information and guidance when needed. Discusses concerns of work situation with Manager or designee. Administrative Report - Responds to communication system/patient alarms and executes with a sense of urgency. Answer the telephone in accordance with CCHMC telephone etiquette. Assemble charts, order patient supplies, and stock clerical supplies. Proactively review and report inventories and supply shortages to manager.
