Driver Service Attendant - Grade 7

Penn State is searching for a full time Driver Service Attendant - Grade 7 to join the team. Duties include: Drive vehicles such as passenger cars, station wagons, vans, buses, trucks, etc. Transport personnel, luggage, goods, or freight to and/or from destinations in or out of the country Load and/or unload vehicles as assigned Place fleet identification number and record property control number on vehicle; attach license plate; place credit cards, insurance card, and registration card in vehicle, as directed Check vehicle to see if standard equipment is present such as tools, spare tires, backup lights, etc., as instructed Check and fill vehicles with gas, oil, water, antifreeze, and windshield washer; check condition of tires, batteries, brakes, lights, etc.; change tires, batteries, license plates, and seats as required Shuttle motor vehicles within the area, to storage area, check-in area, or parking area Place keys in vehicles to be picked up and/or washed Remove keys and lock vehicles as required Explain operation of vehicle to user-drivers and the use of credit cards, where to return vehicle after completing trip, etc. Give detailed explanation for use of 4-wheel-drive vehicles Record odometer readings at time vehicle leaves Fleet Operations and upon its return Record monthly readings of Fleet vehicles, as required Drive vehicles to check reports of needed maintenance such as soft brakes, etc. Check for damages to vehicle; report to supervisor Check to see if work order and correct vehicle are present Take vehicle and work order to University Garage Operate automatic car wash to clean exterior of motor vehicles; clean interior of vehicles; wash windows inside and out Wash buses, large vehicles, and cars by hand, when necessary Wash exterior of vehicles, remove tar, insects, etc.; empty ash trays and clean trunks Perform routine operator maintenance on automatic car wash as required Perform routine start-up procedure on requested vehicles and buses; shuttle to driver pick-up area Follow standard procedure in attempting to start buses in operational distress by making minor on-site adjustments, such as checking and engaging reset button, readjusting transmission gear shift lever, clearing ice blocking door exits, etc. Deliver new bus and return distressed vehicle to Fleet Operations Operate engine cleaning machine; cover painted areas of vehicle prior to engine cleaning process Clean engine with cleansing foam; rinse, dry, and apply wax to engine using spray wax container Clean, sweep, wash, and arrange tire storage area, carport area, supply shed, and dispatch shed. Inventory and record gasoline level as assigned Check supplies of soap, wax, brushes, cloth and paper towels, etc., as assigned Job Requirements: Requires the use of commercial English, grammar and arithmetic such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, including decimals and fractions; simple use of formulas, charts, tables, drawings, specifications, schedules, wiring diagrams, together with the use of adjustable measuring instruments, graduates and the like requiring interpretation in their various applications; or the posting, preparation, interpretation, use and checking of reports, forms, records and comparable data. Requires a Pennsylvania Commercial Drivers License B (CDL) with Passenger Endorsement (P); without Air Brake Restriction (L). 6 to 9 months of effective experience. Shift: 2:00 p.m. - 10:30 p.m. Days Off: Saturday, Sunday Qualifications

Minimum Work Experience 6 to 9 months of effective experience Required Certifications Pennsylvania Commercial Driver's License Class B with Endorsement P and without Restriction L - Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Background Checks/Clearances Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks. This position is subject to federal Department of Transportation testing for alcohol and controlled substances (49 CFR PART 40), and physical examination requirements as per PA. CODE 231.85.
