Field Communications Technician

Job#: 2082506 Location: Lexington, South Carolina (or within an hour drive of Lexington) - Onsite & 40% travel Travel Coverage: Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina Needs to be within less than an hour commute and 50 miles or less from Lexington 24/7 on call The Communications Technician will provide regional telecommunications field support. This role requires a highly motivated individual, capable of working independent of direct supervision, to support a wide array of communications systems. This position will provide direct support of local projects, system preventative maintenance, fault isolation and troubleshooting, and 24 hour on-call support. The technician will also provide support and first level training of field operations personnel. Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

Installation, configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting for various types of communication systems, such as voice, data, SCADA, video, microwave, and satellite equipment, in addition to the infrastructure which it supports. Assist projects group with the implementation of project related systems. Direct local contractors engaged in the installation and maintenance of telecommunications systems. Provide support and first level training of field operations personnel. Act as first level liaison between field operations and the IT organization. Drive standards in the field and provide feedback to the communications engineering team. Provide 24x7 on-call support. Travel up to 40%. Requirements:

A high school degree or G.E.D. is required. An Associates degree in Electronics or 7 years of equivalent experience in the field of Electronics is required. 7+ years experience in the installation and/or maintenance of telecommunications systems, including wireless data systems, SCADA, and LAN cabling systems are required. The applicant should be able to utilize test equipment and software required to support telecommunications in the field. The applicant should also be proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel. Ability to work independently of direct supervision and prioritize assigned activities Ability to interact with internal and external teams /clients to solve problems. Physical ability to work in an outdoor environment and safely and effectively operate a motor vehicle Nice to Have Requirements:

A network certification such as a CCNA is a plus. FCC license is preferred. Proven experience with phone system and microwave communications systems installation and maintenance are a plus. Technologies:

Satellite (VSAT or RF experience great, the Satellite/VSAT is most important for this region/area) Lot of cellular and fiber optics in larger facilities. Not a lot of 2-way radio or data radios compared to other regions Physical Security experience: Little bit of broadband/license free radios for cameras. Cameras to look at pump sales, etc. Technologies to Cover in General with Any Candidates:

(Avaya (not required), at least VOIP Technology, PR1 & T1 Circuitry) Physical Security

(badge access, closed circuit television (CCTV), security cameras) Intercoms (nice to have, not required) Badge access and security cameras are a big area to highlight as requirement Fiber Optics, Cabling Hands on testing fiber optics. How to look at the tests and read it, get information on testing of fiber optics, and their process. RF:

2-way radio Data radios (SCADA side - nice to have, not required). When asking about SCADA experience - dig in on hands on connecting comm side of things to SCADA system. In Technology Checklist they have, they mention Serial Data & TCP/IP under Scada as well VSAT / satellite communications (required) Networking:

Dont emphasize on this, programming and such the technician isnt doing. Responsibilities to be taught here: Installing and connecting more so is their responsibility.
