THE POSITION First application review period: August 11, 2025 The City of Carson's Community Services Department is seeking a dynamic, service-driven individual to join our team as an Assistant Events Coordinator. This role is ideal for someone with a strong commitment to customer service and a keen eye for detail. The successful candidate will support the planning and execution of events at the Community Center, helping to ensure each event runs smoothly and exceeds community expectations. Job Summary: Under supervision, performs support activities in the coordination of Community Center events and programs; coordinates Center activities between the public and Center staff. ESSENTIAL DUTIES

(These functions are representative and may not be present in all positions in the class. Management reserves the right to add, modify, change or rescind related duties and work assignments.) Assists in the planning, organizing and coordinating of Community Center events; may assist in preparing contracts to use Center facilities. Interfaces with clients prior to and during events to insure needs and problems that may arise are handled. Assists in planning an execution of all arrangements and insures event schedules and set-up work schedules are monitored for cost efficient operations. Interfaces with catering staff to ensure client needs and expectations are met. Maintains information regarding event attendance, schedules, expenditures and utilization of supplies and equipment. Explains rules and regulations to assure the safety and welfare of Center users. Assists in monitoring budget expenditures. May draft correspondence and reports. Provides information, trains and coordinates the work of staff, including the set up crew. Assists the public by providing information to the public, consults with clients to determine their facility needs; maintains effective community relations.. Performs related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way to obtain the requisite qualifications to perform the duties of this class is as follows:

Education and Experience: Any combination equivalent to high school and one (1) year experience in contract preparation requiring contact with clients for banquet, meeting room, convention or food service arrangements, or related experience.

Knowledge of:

Principles and practices of contract preparation for services or facilities. Sales and terminology used in the convention, trade show and meeting space business. Principles of basic accounting and receivables. Skill and Ability to:

Assist in managing the Community Center. Promote facility to the public and vendors. Communicate orally and in writing. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. WORKING CONDITIONS

The City contracts with CalPERS for medical benefits, which offers employees a choice of various HMOs and PPOs. The City shall pay the required monthly minimum of $143.00 towards the monthly health insurance premium. For unit members who have eight (8) years or more of consecutive service with the City and currently working 1,000 hours or more per fiscal year, the City provides an optional benefits package (medical and vision) and, effective May 26, 2016, the City provides an additional $314.00 per month to be used towards these optional benefits for employee and eligible dependents. Paid sick leave shall accrue at the rate of one (1) hour for each 30 hours worked to a maximum of 24 hours per year. Unit members shall be entitled to use accrued paid sick time beginning on the 90th day of employment, defined as sick leave accrual and usage. Paid sick leave shall be taken in increments of not less than one (1) hour. Holiday Pay (Unit members will receive holiday pay only if they are scheduled to work during the pay period in which the holiday falls).

Effective calendar year 2012, unit members will receive five (5) hours of holiday pay for each of the following holidays:

New Year's Day Memorial Day Thanksgiving Day Christmas Day.
