Laboratory Technician

Performs routine and specialized moderate and high complexity laboratory tests on all types of blood and body fluid specimens under minimal supervision. Insures accurate and reliable test results by adhering to a strict quality control program. Performs instrument function checks and preventative maintenance procedures according to department's policies and procedures. Maintains records and statistical data according to regulatory requirements. Teaches new employees and students laboratory policies and procedures. Collects chain of custody urine drug screens as required. Shift differentials are available for the following shifts: you must work 4 hours into the shift time to get the differentials (Monday - Thursday 3p 11p = $3.50 per hour and 11p-7a = $3.75, Friday - Sunday 11p - 7a = $6.00 per hour, or Saturday Sunday 7a 3p = $4.00 per hour and 3p 11p = $5.50 per hour). This is a PRN as-needed position, you must be available to work at least 12 hours bi-weekly, as needed according to departmental demands. You may be required to work additional hours if requested by your supervisor to accomplish work objectives. Work hours may vary (increase or decrease) depending on the needs of the unit. Education: Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or related field or any equivalent combination of education and experience in the medical laboratory to equal 2 years. Licenses/Certificates: MT (ASCP) or equivalent, and MLT (ASCP) must be obtained within 1 year of hire date, Basic Life Safety (BLS) with the American Heart Association (AHA) The Medical University of South Carolina is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
