Job Category: Billing, Coding-Collection Position Summary: The Insurance Coordinator position verifies patient eligibility and benefits, provides estimates for in office services and surgical procedures, follows up on patient referrals and answers incoming billing questions from patients. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Answers incoming billing questions and concerns from patients Obtains patient eligibility status and benefit verification Compiling medical records as needed Verifies patient referral status Answers questions from patients, staff and insurance companies Identifies and prepares patient refunds Prepares, reviews, and sends patient statements Performs various collections actions including contacting patients by phone; correcting and resubmitting claims to third party payers Maintains strict confidentiality; adheres to HIPAA guidelines and regulations Performs other work related duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities): Exhibit professional verbal communications skills, including written and with proper grammar Knowledge of medical billing/collection practice Knowledge of business office procedures Ability to read and understand ERAs / EOBs Knowledge of basic medical coding and third-party operating procedures and practices Ability to maintain effective working relationships with patients and employees Ability to operate a computer, computer software and basic office equipment Physical Demands and Work Environment: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
