Technical Project Management Role

This role focuses on managing operational aspects of ongoing projects from initiation through completion and serves as a liaison between project management and planning, project team, and line management. In addition, this role focuses on performing the following technical project management duties: manages the technical aspects of ongoing projects and serves as a liaison between project management and planning, project team, and line management. Reviews the technical aspects and status of projects and budgets, manages schedules, and prepares status reports. Assesses project issues and develops resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and client-satisfaction goals and objectives. A management role that supervises employees focusing on tactical, operational activities within a specified area, with the majority of time spent overseeing area of responsibility, planning, prioritizing and/or directing the responsibilities of employees. Goal achievement is typically accomplished through performance of direct and/or indirect reports. A role that manages experienced professionals who exercise latitude and independence in assignments. Responsibilities typically include: policy and strategy implementation for short-term results (1 year or less), problems faced are difficult to moderately complex, and influences others outside of own job area regarding policies, practices, and procedures. Manage and provide leadership to staff that are responsible for Tufts Medicine system IT projects to ensure quality results. Assign projects to staff to align project complexity and timeline expectations to staff ability and staff development opportunity. Provide staff mentoring, coaching, performance evaluation, and selection of new staff. Serve as the point of contact for IT projects to ensure successful development, implementation, timeliness, and cost set forth by leadership. Responsible for large and complex projects or portfolios that require high levels of functional integration and organizational change management across Tufts Medicine. Partner with key stakeholders throughout the Tufts Medicine system to ensure strategic alignment with business goals. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Information Technology (IT) or related field. Seven (7) years of experience in IT projects, applications, software development, infrastructure, or related experience. Five (5) years of experience managing staff. Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in Information Technology (IT) or related field. Experience in a hospital environment. Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification. Duties and Responsibilities: Provide leadership over IT program and project management processes, including project intake, project prioritization, scoping, tracking, and communications to operational leadership. Collaborate with Tufts Medicine strategic program and project management leadership to ensure that projects are appropriately tracked, prioritized, managed, and staffed across operational and IT stakeholders. Manage assigned staff to lead IT programs and projects to completion within timelines and within approved budget. Mentor, coach, and develop staff, evaluate performance, and select new hires. Responsible for oversight of the program/project and sub-project teams in terms of work assignment, timely completion of work, and utilization of team members to accomplish sponsor and stakeholder expectations. Partner with key stakeholders to communicate directly or via staff project milestones, needs, and other important updates. Oversee the management of projects and enhancements across IT. Design, develop, and implement process improvements to streamline activities and provide guidance on key processes such as project scoping, change management, and request escalation. Maintain and accountable for the budget, including vendor quotations, purchase requisitions, and purchase orders. Oversee the development of documentation that may include project plans, schedules, project status reports, technical requirements and specifications, and testing, training, and go-live plans. Manage the most strategic, complex, and high-visibility projects, using strong relationship skills and project management skills to partner with key operational leaders to deliver excellent quality outcomes. Manage resources to ensure successful completion of program deliverables. Resolve and manage project issues, barriers, assumptions, and risks. Structure and implement changes within the context of established strategy. Participate in developing department goals, policies, procedures, and quality assurance programs, and implement these as they pertain to assigned applications. Physical Requirements: Work environment: professional office environment with typical office requirements such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, etc. Frequently required to speak, hear, communicate, and exchange information. Able to see and read computers displays, read fine print, and/or normal type size print and distinguish letters, numbers, and symbols. Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
