Adjunct Instructor, Honors College - Humans of RVA (Rolling Pool)
The Honors College at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) is seeking part-time adjunct instructors to teach Humans of RVA and VCU, a required 1-credit experiential learning and community engagement course for first-year Honors students in the fall. The course explores the nature of community, Richmond's history, and students' roles in civic engagement, while fostering an understanding of the connections between community involvement, social justice, and social change. Students will develop communication skills to engage ethically and effectively with diverse populations and, inspired by Humans of New York, will interview Richmond-area residents and share their stories on social media to challenge stereotypes and embrace the complexity of individual experiences, drawing on Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's concept of "the danger of a single story." Typical duties position responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Facilitate the course objectives Meet all designated course instruction guidelines Grade assignments and exams in a timely manner based on instructions/rubric provided Respond to student inquiries within 24 hours Submit final grades according to College and department policies Each agency within the Commonwealth of Virginia is dedicated to recruiting, supporting, and maintaining a competent and diverse work force.
