Behavioral Health Consultant
The behavioral health consultant (BHC) will provide mental health services in two distinct settings: the Western Colorado HIV Specialty Care Clinic (HIV Clinic) and the St Mary's Family Medicine Residency Clinic (Residency). Within the HIV Clinic, the BHC is supervised by the clinic's Medical Director. He/She provides mental health screenings as applicable, conducts brief behavioral health interventions. He/She may provide additional ongoing therapy but may also refer patients in need of additional therapy. Within the residency, the BHC is supervised by the Director of Behavioral Sciences and will provide unscheduled behavioral screens, brief interventions, recommendations for care, and referrals to other therapists in the clinic or community. The IBH Clinician will provide team-based care at our family medicine residency clinic as a core member of the care team, providing brief, evidence-based interventions to patients across the lifespan. The role includes a split of time between outpatient primary care, inpatient behavioral health consults, and wraparound care coordination for high-utilizing patients through our multidisciplinary care model. In addition to direct patient care, the clinician will provide training and supervision of Masters of Social Work student interns and contributes to ongoing quality improvement (QI) initiatives and clinic workflows. Key Responsibilities: Deliver brief, solution-focused, and culturally responsive behavioral health interventions within primary care and inpatient settings. Provide same-day warm handoffs, crisis interventions, and follow-up care. Participate in behavioral health consults for hospitalized patients, collaborating closely with inpatient medical teams. Co-manage high-risk, high-utilizing patients through an innovative wraparound care model that emphasizes continuity, care planning, and interdisciplinary teamwork. Training & Supervision: Provide clinical supervision and mentorship to MSW student interns. Offer in-service trainings and case consultations to primary care providers and staff. Contribute to curriculum development for integrated care rotations. Quality Improvement and Administrative Duties: Collaborate on QI initiatives that enhance behavioral health integration, access, and outcomes. Utilize data-driven methods to evaluate care processes and inform practice improvements. Assist with clinical metrics. Builds the schedule for the IBH team, ensuring alignment with clinical and training functions. Position Details: Monday - Friday, no nights or weekends Option to work 40 hours available Open to certified and clinical level licensed candidates Candidate will need to enroll in hospital credentialing which is a 60-90 day process. Required Qualifications: Master's Degree from an accredited institution. License: Prefer a licensed psychologist, social worker, family therapist, licensed addiction counselor or professional counselor. Previous experience working with adult population within ethnically and culturally diverse families. Ability to work independently, organize tasks, problem-solve, make decisions, and handle multiple priorities Preferred Qualifications: Fluency in Spanish preferred and English required.
