Laboratory Technician Assistant (clinical lab assistant/phlebotomist) Full-Time, 40hrs/week, Days 8:30a-5p , rotating holidays required as needed. Job Summary Performs, under minimal supervision, daily workflow management of the section. Responsible for training and competency assessment of all new LTAs and phlebotomy students, and makes recommendations on skill assessments. Works collaboratively to monitor phlebotomy status reports to provide timely services. May be required to perform duties of LTA, Phlebotomist, and/or CLA as needed for patient care, and finds coverage when necessary. Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience High School Diploma or Equivalent Phlebotomy and lab experience required Graduate of Phlebotomy Training program preferred Minimum skills/abilities Ongoing development of work skills through resources like in-services, educational programs, and on-the-job training Participation in staff meetings and in-services, review of documentation as needed Assists in orientation and mentoring of others Performs analytical and decision-making functions with minimal supervision Recognizes when to seek assistance or consultation Understanding of hospital and departmental policies, including safety Awareness of hospital programs and services Certification/Licensure Phlebotomy Certification preferred; ASCP certification/eligibility within one year Job Responsibilities Training new LTAs and students, maintaining competency checklists Coordinating and monitoring activities of LTAs on shifts Distributing work assignments and liaising with other departments Demonstrating advanced skills in specimen collection and troubleshooting LIS devices Directing specimens appropriately Handling procedures and reports related to LIS devices Reviewing specimen status reports hourly and noting constraints Performing all duties of an LTA proficiently Performing other laboratory duties as directed Achieving a 95% success rate in venipunctures Following safety policies and PPE usage Maintaining departmental policies and quality improvement practices Receiving and verifying specimens from couriers Managing specimen labeling and test procedures Preparing specimens for referral labs with accurate documentation Maintaining inventory and supplies Keeping accurate records manually and electronically Following safety and infection control policies Participating in safety training and compliance activities Contributing to a professional, tolerant, and respectful environment Equal Opportunity Employer/Disabled/Veterans #J-18808-Ljbffr
