This role is categorized as hybrid. The successful candidate is expected to report to the GM Technical Center in Austin, TX, at least three times per week. The Role We are the Brands & Marketing software engineering team within the Digital Products Engineering (DPE) organization at GM. Our team collaborates closely with marketing leaders across GM to build user-friendly tooling that creates engaging and innovative experiences at scale, providing meaningful value to our customers through seamless customer experiences. Our mission is to rapidly ideate, iterate, and launch the next generation of solutions to connect GM with current and future customers. Our team includes industry-leading software and quality engineers utilizing innovative development methodologies and technologies to achieve breakthrough results, drive innovation, and delight customers. We seek an exceptional engineer passionate about building web products for General Motors. You will lead engineering efforts through planning, design, architecture, execution, and ramp-up. As a technical leader, you will mentor less experienced engineers, build relationships with technical leaders on other teams, and foster a strong team culture. What You'll Do Develop expertise across our complete web technologies stack (client, framework, and services). Evaluate architectural trade-offs and apply synchronous and asynchronous design patterns. Produce high-quality, unit-tested software that undergoes code reviews and is checked into version control regularly for continuous integration. Act as a tech lead, mentoring other engineers on the team. Explore and propose product ideas and technical initiatives with cross-functional teams. Initiate, plan, and execute large-scale, cross-functional, organization-wide critical programs. Leverage your technical leadership to ensure adherence to engineering best practices and promote opportunities for improving engineering productivity and craftsmanship. Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications) Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience. 5+ years of experience in web application development focusing on frontend technologies. Expertise in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, especially with web component/custom element standards. 2+ years of experience in system architecture, documentation, and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability, scaling). Experience working with multi-tier production systems utilizing HTTP APIs (REST, GraphQL) and Content Management Systems. Ability to understand the tech stack, debug code, and tests. Enthusiastic about impacting engineering culture positively from the ground up. Preferred Qualifications Master's Degree in Computer Science or related field. 7+ years of experience in web frontend, application, and services development. Expertise in JS ES2020+ and frameworks like ReactJS. Experience with Content Management Systems such as Adobe Experience Manager. Ability to understand the tech stack, debug code, and tests.
