Applications reviewed on a rolling basis Description: A nationally acclaimed e-commerce brand dedicated to bringing American history to life through engaging consumer products is seeking contract historians for research, writing, and content development. Our work has been featured in major media outlets and recognized for making history accessible, apolitical, and tangibly relevant. We are currently focused on developing new content rooted in the Colonial, Revolutionary, and Founding Eras of U.S. history (approximately 1600–1800). We’re looking for meticulous, self-directed historians who can work directly with the Founder to uncover, validate, and present historical materials with accuracy and storytelling finesse. This is a remote, project-based opportunity ideal for Ph.D. or Master’s-level historians eager to apply their academic training in a public-facing, consumer-oriented context. Responsibilities: Conduct thorough primary and secondary research on early American history topics Source and interpret original documents, letters, speeches, and visual artifacts Write concise, engaging, and apolitical historical summaries and narratives for general audiences Fact-check content with precision, using trusted academic and archival sources Collaborate directly with the Founder to develop and refine historical materials Independently manage project timelines and deliverables Qualifications: Ph.D. or Master’s degree (or ABD) in American History, Public History, or closely related field Specialization in the Colonial, Revolutionary, or Early Republic periods preferred Exceptional research and analytical skills; fluent in historical sourcing and documentation Outstanding writing ability—clear, engaging, and free from political bias High attention to detail and commitment to factual accuracy Comfortable working independently in a fast-moving, creative environment Bonus: experience with archives, museums, or historical publishing Compensation: Competitive hourly or per-project rates, based on experience and scope.
