TransMedics has initiated a national program for organ retrieval and organ management in collaboration with leading transplant programs and OPOs across the U.S. The goal of this national program is to increase utilization of donor organs for transplant using the Organ Care System (OCS) technology platform along with a dedicated logistics partner and a well-established clinical network to maximize quality and efficiency. The cardiothoracic donor procurmenet surgeon will play a critical role in driving the OCS utilization for the FDA approved OCS lung and heart indications while standardizing and maximizing the quality of the surgical assessment and procurement process of OCS managed organs for accepting transplant programs across the U.S. Primary duty is to perform all aspects of donor heart and lung procurement surgery including clinical assessment of donor organs (conduct bronchoscopy, as needed for diagnostic and treatment purposes), surgical donor organ retrieval and OCS instrumentation procedures to the highest level of clinical quality and according to TransMedics protocol/training standards at transplant centers across the US Travel to donor/recipient sites as needed and/or may be assigned to coverage in various locations for a few weeks at a time. As a TMDX clinical ambassador, maintain the highest standards of professional and communication standards to maximize confidence and avoid any negative perceptions in the OR environment or with accepting transplant surgeons Participate in developing OCS surgical retrieval, donor organ management and assessment, and communication protocols for both OCS Heart and OCS Lung procurements Assist in training and mentoring the OCS Cardiothoracic surgical retrieval team members across the US. Including proctoring donor retrieval runs with junior surgeons, if needed, to expand TMDX team Communicate as needed with transplant programs’ accepting transplant surgeon to provide a surgical assessment view to facilitate clinical decisions on accepting or declining a donor offer Communicate with TMDX clinical staff on the status of the organ to facilitate the allocation process Perform other TransMedics tasks and duties as required

Requirements
MD degree or equivalent with at least 5+ years’ experience conducting deceased cardiothoracic (lung and heart) donor organ procurement and assessments and/or advanced cardiothoracic surgical procedures Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills Able to work independently and collaboratively and build rapport with internal and external contacts Ability to work calmly and professionally under pressure Highly flexible and adaptable Proficiency with electronic messaging platforms and MS Office Suite
Education
MD degree or equivalent with specialized cardiothoracic surgical training MD degree with at least 5+ years conducting deceased cardiothoracic (lung and heart) donor organ procurement and assessments and/or advanced cardiothoracic surgical procedures Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills; able to work independently and collaboratively and build rapport with internal and external contacts Ability to work calmly and professionally under pressure Proficiency with using electronic messaging platforms and MS office Suite
