As an operations Manager, you'll help lead our teams in maintaining high standards of operational efficiency while prioritizing the safety of all team members. SUMMARY:

The Operations manager is part of the Ports America's Operations management team, with full responsibility to effectively direct the planning and supervision of the duties associated with terminal operations and staff. The Operations Manager is a subject matter expert able to lead, delegate and mentor positively and instils confidence with customers. This includes ensuring efficient, safe and productive operations for your assigned customers, port terminal area and cargo type. This role is responsible for participating in the development and achievement of operational and financial goals and objectives and incorporating Ports America Values of Safety, Integrity, Pursue Excellence, Create Happiness, Connect and One Team in all aspects of communication, behavior and business dealings.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Assumes a lead role in managing the company's Safety program.

Ensures all labor and staff comply with accident prevention / safety and workers' compensation programs and procedures.

Leads safety committees and is proficient in managing safety audits.

Reviews safety trends for area and incorporates corrective measures and provides training sessions as needed.

Develops short range business plans designed to achieve company goals and objectives while operating within approved fiscal budget.

Identifies areas of cost reduction, leads and supports operational excellence initiatives.

Effectively manages the work activities of the Foreman, Labor and other personnel; ensuring performance expectations and customer needs are met.

Determines the amount of labor needed for each day and ensures labor is order appropriately for your assigned area.

Makes decisions affecting overtime cost and general expenditures and ensures they are made in the best interest of our company and customers.

Determines additional staffing / labor needs and contacts appropriate representative in advance, ensuring cost-effective staffing and availability.

Ensures payroll accuracy and makes appropriate changes as needed.

Develops, reviews and approves efficient operational plans for all areas.

Works closely with M&R/Terminal Departments to ensure the appropriate equipment allocation meets operational demands.

Demonstrates and maintains positive relations with Labor and ensures that the Collective Bargaining Agreements are understood and adhered to.

Demonstrates the process for reviewing and evaluating the performance of employees under his/her supervision, and imposing corrective action/discipline when circumstances warrant.

Advises Site Leadership such as Operations Manager/General Manager of labor matters and assist in adjudicating all complaints filed including grievances.

Participates in regular training and feed-back to labor and management staff.

Communicates areas of accountability and performance expectations to labor and management staff.

Develops, communicates, maintains and improves operating and administrative procedures (consistent with area procedures and objectives) designed to provide required information and facilitate internal practices.

Ensures certifications and required training and clearance is current for you and your staff.

Ensures that all company policies, procedures and controls are followed and that required reports are completed accurately, submitted on time to appropriate staff, customers and other designated personnel, and that appropriate staff and labor have a full understanding of these procedures.

Trains, mentors and develops Interns, and Entry Level Superintendents.

Travels to support other operations as needed.

Other duties and projects as assigned and relevant.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Educates, enforces and drives safety program/rules

LR Expert, able to interpret CBA and make arguments to union on conflicts

Knows jurisdiction controls of all labor unions which operate at their site

Delegates and provides direction

Knows what decisions will maximize the bottom line

Engaged in long term goals for Site/Terminal

Leads and challenges decisions

Trains and develops others

Ability to step in for Ops/Site Mgr. when needed

Able to communicate effectively with shippers/customers/Port

Requires the ability to work a flexible schedule of hours, days, nights, weekends and holidays

Physical Working Attributes:

Climb up and down a ladder on a vessel multiple times within a shift

Work in changing hot and cold climates based on weather conditions

Work in an environment that may be hazardous to persons unable to see and hear fast moving equipment

Lift, push, and or pull up to 40lbs

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

High School Diploma OR GED Equivalent AND 4+ years managing operations

Prior management experience may be substituted for degree requirement

Prior Superintendent experience required

Proven experience in managing port terminal operations

Advanced experience with terminal computerized operating systems

Advanced knowledge of safety and accident prevention codes and regulations

Advanced knowledge and understanding of cargo stowage and stability

Valid US Driver's License

Requires the ability to obtain a TWIC Card issued by the Department of Homeland Security

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Marine Administration, Transportation, Operations Management, Engineering, or equivalent experience working in management

Demonstrated leadership managing union contracts and union labor

Knowledge and understanding of cargo stowage and stability

Knowledge of and commitment to safety and accident prevention, safety codes and regulations, and related industry governmental regulations

Thorough knowledge or principles of terminal operations and cargo stowage

COMPENSATION RANGE: 82,000.00 to 129,000.00
