Job Summary: Provides engineering, project management, and operational troubleshooting support to the operating plants in Calpine's fleet. Organizes, evaluates, and implements enhancement projects at operating plants. Provides assistance to the plants for interface with other groups and resources both internal and external to Calpine. Position can also be located at a Calpine Power Plant in Texas (multiple locations). Job Responsibilities: Provides Calpine’s Operating Fleet technical support on Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSGs), Boilers and Balance of Plant Equipment including piping systems, valves, pumps, compressors, condensers and cooling towers. Conducts HRSG and balance of plant condition assessments, develops a list of recommendations, issues out written reports, communicates findings to plant/regional management, and supports the plants in implementing the recommendations. Evaluates equipment and system problems. Takes a lead role in implementing changes to improve safety, reliability and performance of the equipment. Provide technical and field supervision of mechanical and technical contractors during planned and forced plant outages. Provide construction management to implement repairs or upgrades which will include: Develop contract specifications and bid packages. Conducts bid walks and manages contractors during the installation of capital improvements, design changes or repairs identified during HRSG Assessments. Review the quality of the contractor’s work daily to insure it complies with the Calpine design standards, the construction specification and applicable codes. Check the job site on a daily basis for unsafe conditions and notify the responsible contractor’s superintendent immediately. Verifies design intent is achieved and conducts performance testing of new or repaired equipment or systems Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Mechanical Services. Job Requirements: At least ten (10) years’ experience in the Power industry, particularly in the assessment and troubleshooting of the power plant’s mechanical equipment. A good comprehension of basic engineering practices through work experience or college courses. A Bachelor of Science degree from a four (4) year accredited college or university, or equivalent education or experience. Working knowledge of the common design and fabrication codes (i.e. ASME B31.1) Must have strong computer skills especially in the use of Microsoft’s Office suite. Good verbal and written communication skills are essential. Candidate will need to communicate across all levels in the organization. Must be flexible and able to work harmoniously with others. Good problem solving and analytical ability are required Must be able to read and understand construction drawings. Codes/Standards, P & IDs and other technical documents. Good organization skills and attention to details are essential Candidate must be able and willing to travel.
