Summary
The Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (MBS) Coordinator is a licensed and/or registered healthcare professional responsible for ensuring excellent patient care in the Center for Weight Control (CWC) program. This role involves supervising teaching, collaboration, and consultation with other healthcare professionals. The MBS Coordinator addresses patient needs in accordance with the CWC program and the Nursing Division's policies and procedures. They also ensure the program meets all quality and accreditation standards and assist with administrative functions.
Responsibilities
I. Job Relationships:
Provides leadership and direction to staff including: CWC Unit Secretaries/Administrative Assistants Inpatient Nursing Educator and Nurse Manager involved in bariatric patient care Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Clinical Reviewer (MBSCR) Collaborates with: CWC physicians and Bariatric Surgeons Interdisciplinary team members (Insurance Coordinator, Nutrition, etc.) Operational leadership of the Medical Office Building and Operating Room Administrative leadership including the Director of Surgery and VP of Operations Serves in a consultative role to: Laboratory, Pharmacy, House Officers, Transporters, Unit Secretaries, Care Managers, Social Services, Pastoral Care personnel II. Authority Ensures program compliance with all quality and accreditation standards with appropriate resources and authority. Fully integrated into the organizational framework of the CWC and Medical Center. III. Responsibilities Provides superior customer service to clients, customers, and patients. Acts as the primary interface for program development and communication with nursing staff. Maintains staff education to optimize patient outcomes and reduce adverse events. Stays informed of accreditation standards and works with leadership to meet them. Oversees patient data management for tracking and reporting. Works with MBSCR to ensure timely outcomes data submission. Implements quality improvement initiatives to promote continuous care quality. Practices within professional nursing standards and promotes professional development. Attends relevant conferences and educational events annually. Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams for comprehensive patient care. Participates in regular team meetings to advance program initiatives. Works with operational leadership to ensure effective clinic operations, staffing, patient satisfaction, and proper facilities and equipment. Demonstrates leadership and supports hospital-wide quality and safety goals. Applies current research to clinical practice.
