The Database Admin Consultant will be a member of the Global Database Engineering team, responsible for supporting database operations for managed hosting and managed services customers. Key responsibilities include troubleshooting and resolving incidents using ticketing tools, creating and executing change requests, handling database requests, and troubleshooting recurring issues through problem tickets. The role may also involve providing Tier 3/4 escalation support for Lumen Hosting Operations Engineers and customers in MS-SQL environments. Collaboration with global DBAs, application, systems operations, and engineering teams is essential. Required skills: Hands-on technical knowledge of all versions of Microsoft SQL Server Database Administration. 7+ years of experience supporting SQL Server in production environments. Understanding of managing databases on Azure/AWS. Experience with SSRS and SSIS. Ability to troubleshoot MSSQL Server performance issues, including server configuration, indexes, queries, and network/disk-related issues. Knowledge of SQL Server security techniques such as TDE, SSL, Always-Encrypted. Experience implementing high availability and disaster recovery techniques like log shipping, replication, mirroring, Always On, clustering. Proficiency in managing hosted Windows environments. Additional desirable skills include migration experience from Sybase to MSSQL, understanding of ITIL methodologies, automation of database tasks, and strong communication skills. A self-starter capable of working in mission-critical environments with minimal supervision is preferred. Good to have: Basic Windows Server administration experience. Knowledge of Windows server failover clustering. Scripting skills in PowerShell, Python, Perl, VBScript, JavaScript, or C#. Experience with third-party monitoring, administration tools, and backup/HA solutions like SQLSafe, LiteSpeed, DoubleTake, WanSync. Microsoft SQL Server certification.
