We are seeking an

VP, Actuary

to be based out of our

New York, NY

office to help support US Insurance. The primary responsibility of this position will be Transactional Pricing, with ample opportunity to get involved in a broad array of projects and to contribute more broadly to Sompo International’s wider needs.

The following information provides an overview of the skills, qualities, and qualifications needed for this role. Main areas of Responsibility: Liaise with and provide business insights to Business Unit leaders in clear fashion Provide oversight to junior members of the actuarial team Provide strategic actuarial leadership for the Transactional portfolios Collaborate with underwriting to derive insights and initiatives to improve the profitability of the business Identify key characteristics to improve risk selection and pricing Develop & maintain a suite of performance monitoring reports that provide management insight into the health of the portfolios. Provide pricing support on individual large accounts using a variety of methodologies Leverage both internal and external data to develop greater insight into the business. Review, monitor, and enhance the pricing / underwriting tools used to provide up to date, precise and consistent indications. Construct & maintain the data pipelines and data tables that provide analytic edge. Build and maintain dashboards of key actuarial metrics (rate change, business mix, loss trends, etc.) and fulfil ad-hoc reporting requests. Stay abreast of emerging technology and trends to continually improve existing process and capabilities. Support corporate level actuarial projects, including providing input to capital modeling, ceded re, and risk management Qualifications, Skills, and Experience: FCAS 10+ Years of Property Casualty Actuarial Experience Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Willing to challenge the status quo by identifying and remediating deficiencies Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Solid understanding of conventional actuarial techniques and standards of practice Self-motivated with flexibility and willingness to adapt to changing priorities Proficient in Excel and one or more programming languages (Python, R, SQL, DAX preferred) Strong preference towards someone who is a quick-learner, resourceful, open minded to new ideas, and adaptive to change Prior experience with Standard Lines of Business, Healthcare, or Transactional Pricing Salary Range: $185,000– $265,000

Actual compensation for this role will depend on several factors including the cost of living associated with your work location, your qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience.
